See do not tip in these scam apps. The drivers don’t believe you if you tell them you’ll tip in cash, but if you pretip in the app they might not get it.

From the link (one of the many things Walmart was doing wrong):
Deceiving consumers that “100% of tips go to the driver.” Despite this promise, Walmart, on multiple occasions, failed to provide collected tips to drivers as promised and did not refund the tip to customers either.

See, you’re helping these corpos scam gig service workers when you pretip. They usually let you tip after delivery if you want to, but it’s better to give them cash if you want to tip. At least you know they get it. (I have seen quite a few posts of Uber drivers being shown by customers what they tipped but not getting the whole tip & they wouldn’t have known if the customer didn’t show them their screen.)

From this link:
“If the algo predicts you are a ‘high tipper’ and you’ll likely drop $10, it offers the driver a measly $2 base pay. If you tip $0, it offers them $8 base pay just to get the food moved. The result is that your generosity isn't rewarding the driver; it’s subsidizing us. You’re paying their wage so we don't have to.”

I literally don’t care if my grocery delivery order sits longer so the store has to keep offering more and more money for someone to take it because I don’t pre-tip. I stopped doing it when my stuff kept ending up at the wrong apartment complex. But also it’s not my job to pay the store’s payroll expenses. Let my order sit until they offer the delivery people enough to make it worth it to them. Let it burn to the ground until they do.

I’m a developer for a major food delivery app. The 'Priority Fee' and 'Driver Benefit Fee' go 100% to the company. The driver sees $0 of it. : r/confession https://www.reddit.com/r/confession/comments/1q1mzej/im_a_developer_for_a_major_food_delivery_app_the/

Minimum gratuity during "peak" season, higher tip wage on the table at Massachusetts State House

A pair of Massachusetts State House bills are once again taking aim at tip wage and now gratuity.

These greedy ass gig corporations think we’re going to be SHAMED into paying payroll for them?! 😂😂😂

The Walmart Spark drivers will insist that they won’t deliver orders unless you’re tipping two dollars per mile round-trip, except I always get my orders delivered and I never tip in the app because I know Walmart will pay them less if they can add my tip to what they’re offering.

I never pre tip on these rideshare apps EVER. Why would I do that when I’m going to have to battle this company for a refund if the person doesn’t show up? Or maybe they sexually harass me on the ride. Why would I ever pretip??

So I guess if Lyft doesn’t feel like picking me up because I don’t tip in the app they won’t be able to charge me for the fare. And I can call a cab or reinstall Uber. Oh well. Good luck to them!

Oh and now that tips aren’t taxed I don’t think I’ll be doing that anymore ever. I’ll need to save that money to repair my car when the city doesn’t have enough tax money to fill the potholes. Sorry not sorry. (Yes I realize federal income tax doesn’t pay to fill local potholes, but when the state has to supplement the loss of Medicaid and food stamp funds that money has to come from somewhere.)

@monkeyslunch they need to start paying their spark drivers more for deliveries before one of those people does violence on a customer for not tipping them the ridiculous amount they think we should tip them.

Sorry I am disabled and I am paying for my groceries with food stamps. I pay an annual amount for the delivery fee, I shouldn’t worry I will get shot by someone who CHOSE to deliver my order just because I am not tipping $2 a mile round trip.

And I’m not being paranoid. I see them on Reddit talking about wanting to go back to people’s houses who didn’t adequately tip them when they should be going to talk to someone at Walmart instead. But then they also complain when there are no orders for them to deliver. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've been watching old episodes of the sitcom "It's A Living", and every time they sing "It's a living." in the theme song, part of me wants to angrily shout out "Not anymore it isn't!"

People like this can fuck right off. One of my joys this morning is watching all the spark drivers on the spark driver sub complain about how they’re not getting any deliveries. But when they get deliveries they don’t earn them three dollars a mile plus some random arbitrary amount they’ve decided they think they’re hurting the customers by not taking the delivery. Lol I’ll just order the stuff to be shipped and then you still have to bring it with no tip.

Be mad at your boss it’s not my job to pay your wages I’m not earning record profits from your labors. But also maybe don’t go online and post your earnings for the day that add up to $250 if you’re going to cry about how little you make at this job.

In case you need a motivation to stop tipping, Reddit is a great place to find that.

This person is complaining that they only made $200 on a good night. Yeah, that’s kind of how it works. That’s actually a good night. It makes up for the lunchtime on Tuesdays where you leave with $50.

Also go look at the Uber eats or spark driver or Uber subs. (Though I have a lot more empathy for people complaining that they only made $200 in one night if they’re driving their own vehicle to do that. I don’t think they make money after expenses.)

Make no mistake, they’re not doing it to keep the customers and the employees from getting sick.

It’s just because the state likes money. But whatever works.

But also, don’t give these places your money. Servers in New Hampshire earn $3.26 an hour and at the end of 2020 the greedy restaurant owners who sucked up free PPP loans for the whole year ran to the state house to cry to the state reps so they would pass a law that said if federal minimum wage went up the tipped employees would not get a raise and servers would stay at $3.26 an hour.

These entitled pigs think we should have to pay their payroll expenses for them, and in most of these places the servers supplement their payroll expenses by tipping out the busser and the host and the bartender and sometimes the expo in the kitchen.

What is it they used to say? “Cry More”?
I think that’s an appropriate response to this even though I hated that.
