In Canada:
the proposal would give cabinet the power to decide whether to wipe out a species to permit a project to go ahead provided it is “in the public interest.” ...
Once a species disappears, it is gone forever. Governments rise and fall and are replaced by new governments. Projects start and end and are replaced by new projects. ... But nothing can reverse the extinction of the iconic species which are critical to Canadian livelihoods and way of life.
And for what will we decide that extinction is necessary? What single project will our children’s children look back on and say — that was worth the killer whales or the caribou or the salmon? ...
US President Donald Trump gutted environmental rules in the United States under the banner of “cutting red tape.” Premier Doug Ford has tried to carve out “lawless zones” in Ontario, claiming environmental safeguards have become obstacles to corporate profits. Now Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government risks dragging Canada down the same path — sacrificing nature, democracy and public trust to woo foreign corporations.

The Brazilian three-banded #armadillo Tolypeutes tricinctus, known as "tatu-bola" in Portuguese, is a rare and unique species native to #Brazil. With the ability to roll into a near-impenetrable ball, this endearing behaviour has made them an icon of conservation efforts. They are found in the dry forests and savannahs of Brazil, particularly in the #Cerrado and Caatinga biomes. These fascinating armoured creatures are Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to agricultural expansion for #palmoil, #soy and #meat. Fragmentation of their ecosystem is ongoing for infrastructure projects and #goldmining. With their population in sharp decline, efforts to protect their habitats are essential for their survival. Help them every time you shop and adopt a #vegan diet, and #BoycottPalmOil #BoycottGold #Boycott4Wildlife on social media!
Bee smart – extinction is forever – tote bag
Bees – Bee smart – Extinction is forever design. Bee species number over 20,000 and are our most famous pollinators. Some species are really struggling because of different reasons but one notable one is the use of pesticides. This isn’t an illustration from our Busy Bee books but one of them tells how some clever bees take on a farmer using banned pesticides. The book is called, Busy Bee and the Silent Spring and is available on Amazon. A bag from our Scientist and Philosopher range.
Check out how these products are made using organic cotton. We need to live in not just a sustainable way but one that causes the least environmental loading on the planet. You can even send these items back to be made into new things when you have finished with them. (S&P)

So I have a question about evolution.
If, say, in the case of T-Rexes evolving into chickens (and if that isn't correct, I'm just using it as an example, apply your own more correct example), at what point do we say that T-Rexes went "extinct"? Because they kinda didn't, or at least there's no hard line where they did...?
🦖☄️ 66 million years ago, an #asteroid wiped out 75% of #Earth’s species. The survivors – small #birds, #mammals, #turtles, and #fish – shared key traits: a small body size, the ability to burrow or shelter in #water, and flexible diets. Researchers explain how size, diet, and luck determined who lived and who didn’t.
