It's Feral Friday.... more wild mountain goats, this time, roaming the abandoned ruins of Dinorwig Slate Quarry in North Wales

The #Beauty of #Wales, some #Photos of the lake in #Llanberis, the lower reservoir lake of #Dinorwig pumped power station, one of the most important power plants in #UK. The lake is called #LlynPadarn, it is linked to another lake #LlynPeris, which is the lower reservoir mentioned.
Llanberis is the starting point of the steam locomotive that goes up to the summit of mount #Snowdon in #Snowdonia. In summer this area is overrun by tourist, the climb the summit or take the train up, many of the hikers climb up in #FlipFlops, which is really dangerous and stupid. I have walked some part to the summit, from a point a bit higher than Llanberis, and I saw lots of bloody toes and feet at that time.

It is a nice area, if you ever get a chance or are close you might want to consider a detour, I'd prefer to come off peak season, so maybe start/end of the season.

BTW @gilesgoat, this is the Surge Pond (or "Terrifying hole of certain horrific death" as I prefer to call it) at #Dinorwig #hydroelectric power station near #Llanberis, #Wales. I've been on a tour inside the power station several times. It's absolutely fascinating and awesome (not a word I use lightly). At peak, water flows through the turbines at 360m3 per second - the equivalent volume of a typical 25-meter swimming pool.
@NationCymru Such a shame they let it go like this. The café was always very nice and the shop very popular with tourists. I miss it. It's also a great shame they stopped doing the excellent tours of the power station from there. They were fascinating for anyone with even a hint of interest in engineering. The sheer scale of the construction was awesome (not a word I use lightly). I hope they do them again one day. #Dinorwig #ElectricMountain #Llanberis #Cymru #Wales
@dmoser I've been inside the pumped storage station at #Dinorwig near #Llanberis, #Wales several times and seen the huge valves and turbines running close-up. It's actually built inside the mountain of Elidir Fawr. Water flows down through the mountain from the Marchlyn Mawr reservoir at the top to Llyn Peris below. It has the unique ability to kick-start the UK's National grid in the event of a total blackout. Tours are not running at the moment but are well worth doing if they start again.

Dinorwig Quarry I continue my Welch journey from last Spring. Absolutely fascinating place with the ruins of the slate workers huts giving it a Mordor feeling
Evidence that life in the past wasn't better
