A #LANTERN FOR MY MIND
A lot of people seem to imagine AI as some dark public altar where you place private things, and they are immediately handed to the world.
That is not how I use AI.
For me, AI is closer to a spell checker, #search tool, reading aid, and #thinking mirror.
Since my #stroke, writing is slow. One finger does the work. #AI helps me process what I read, understand what I am trying to say, and reply with more #care.
I donโt use it to expose people. I donโt include surnames, email addresses, #metadata, locations, or anything that identifies a person.
I use it the way someone else might use Google, a #dictionary, a grammar checker, or a trusted notebook.
It helps me think.
It helps me #write.
It helps me slow down before reacting. Like any tool, it can be used badly. So can a #phone, a #camera, a #diary, or a #mouth.
The question is not โAI or no AI?โ
The question is: am I using this #tool with care, honesty, and above all, #kindness
That is the only part I can really be #responsible for.

Today's anime _and_ genre antedating for the Historical #Dictionary of #ScienceFiction: "mecha", here referring to shows featuring humanoid combat robots (rather than the robots themselves). From 1992 to 1987 (_mecha_ referring to the robots is 1986โ in English).
I don't mean to brag, but I successfully used "miasma" whilst in conversation today. ๐
[nurse]: have you need diagnosed with a respiratory issue before?
[me]: me? Asthma.
Continuing the genre updates for the Historical #Dictionary of #ScienceFiction: the complicated "high fantasy", coined in this sense by Lloyd Alexander in a 1969 talk (not published until 1971). We now have a 1970 from James Blish referring to James Branch Cabell.

It's not clear if Blish was aware of the Alexander use (other authors mentioned it before it was published), or if this is a chance occurrence, but the Cabell work is very much a high fantasy novel.

Without permission, a marketing agency republished the entirety of John Koenig's Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows book, replacing its art with AI slop and adding new AI words. Their unauthorized site now ranks higher than the real one everywhere.
