Everyone knows #DC #dcps schools are inequitably treated, funded, & operated—this isn’t news. Folks on the ground try & do the best they can within frameworks they’re given.

At a birthday near Horace Mann Elem. this wknd, we saw signs assert no idling cars allowed near small, growing children.

Here at Wheatley, 3 diesel buses idle out front for extended periods, and we spray malathion in front of kids as they enter school for the day.

Hope you find some good luck, kid. We have none to give.

Got yelled at by another parent at school drop off this morning. I was riding a bike in the street and he was driving a car, with no license plates, and ran through a stop sign.

I was *told* a lot, that boiled down to “you (cyclist) need to be more careful, not me (motorist).”

We used to have 2 crossing guards for Wheatley every morning and evening (one at Neal & Montello, the other at Neal & Trinidad).

Now I sometimes see only one, sometimes both, sometimes neither.

The “guard” at Neal & Trinidad stands on the sidewalk texting on his phone instead of guiding children and stopping cars.

He leaves his car just sitting there idling, with temporary VA tags that expired on February 3, 2023.

This is not a person to entrust with children’s safety. (cc: @citymom92) #DCPS
