Italian News by RSSIl Tempo: Danni da Concertone. Un mese per riparare lastre rotte e prato rovinato
Il responso del sopralluogo fatto dal Comune in piazza San Giovanni non ha lasciato spazio a dubbi: i nuovi danni alla pavimentazione emersi dopo la rimozione del palco del 1° Maggio - segnalati ieri da Il Tempo - sono stati causati dalle attività di allestimento e disallestimento del palco del Concertone, esattamente come già accaduto lo scorso anno. E come lo scorso anno, precisano dal Campidoglio, saranno gli organizzatori dell'evento a farsi carico dei costi di riparazione: è necessario infatti sostituire 24 lastre di pietra, che compongono alcune delle fontane a raso realizzate con i lavori del Giubileo e che si sono spaccate, nonché circa cento metri quadrati di prato ridotto a fanghiglia.
Tuttavia, a Palazzo Senatorio per ora non si mette in dubbio che il 1° Maggio possa continuare a svolgersi a San Giovanni: lo spostamento dell'evento promosso da Cgil, Cisl e Uil non è previsto. Troppo alto, forse, il valore simbolico di quella piazza nell'immaginario e nella tradizione di un certo mondo sindacale e politico, nonostante due anni consecutivi di danni al pavè sembrino dimostrare nei fatti che, dopo il restyling giubilare costato 15 milioni, piazza San Giovanni non è più adatta a un evento da 250 mila persone.
Il Campidoglio però preferisce guardare il bicchiere mezzo pieno e sottolineare che nel 2025 sono state sostituite 106 lastre rotte, quest'anno «solo» 24. Eppure le alternative a San Giovanni ci sarebbero: l'edizione 2024, ad esempio, si è svolta al Circo Massimo proprio perché davanti alla Basilica erano in corso i cantieri giubilari che, quasi alla vigilia dell'apertura della Porta Santa, hanno completamente trasformato e modernizzato il piazzale. Che ora però è evidentemente molto più delicato di prima.
Tornando alla situazione odierna, le fontane con le lastre danneggiate resteranno spente fino al ripristino, che verrà eseguito dalla ditta che ha effettuato i lavori giubilari «in accordo» - fanno sapere dal Comune - con la società che ha organizzato il 1° Maggio, la «iCompany», presente ieri al sopralluogo con i tecnici capitolini. Quanto alle tempistiche, spiegano sempre da Roma Capitale, dovrebbe volerci circa un mese tra l'ordine dei materiali e l'esecuzione dei lavori. Appuntamento al 1° Maggio 2027.

The inspection report conducted by the City Council in Piazza San Giovanni left no room for doubt: the new damage to the pavement that emerged after the removal of the May 1st stage – reported yesterday by Il Tempo – were caused by the setting up and dismantling activities of the Concertone stage, exactly as had already happened last year. And as last year, the City Hall specifies, it will be the event organizers who will take on the cost of repairs: it is necessary to replace 24 stone slabs, which make up some of the fountains built with the Jubilee works and which have cracked, as well as approximately one hundred square meters of lawn reduced to mud.
However, at Palazzo Senatorio, for now, it is not doubted that May 1st can continue to take place in San Giovanni: the relocation of the event promoted by Cgil, Cisl and Uil is not planned. Perhaps too high is the symbolic value of that square in the imagination and tradition of a certain trade union and political world, despite two consecutive years of damage to the pavement seeming to demonstrate in fact that, after the Jubilee restyling costing 15 million, Piazza San Giovanni is no longer suitable for an event of 250,000 people.
The City Hall, however, prefers to look at the glass half full and emphasize that in 2025, 106 broken slabs were replaced, “only” 24 this year. Yet there are alternatives in San Giovanni: the 2024 edition, for example, took place at the Circus Maximus precisely because of the Jubilee works were underway in front of the Basilica, which, almost on the eve of the opening of the Holy Door, completely transformed and modernized the square. Which, however, is now evidently much more delicate than before.
Returning to the current situation, the fountains with the damaged slabs will remain switched off until the restoration, which will be carried out by the company that carried out the Jubilee works “in agreement” – the City Council says – with the company that organized May 1st, the “iCompany,” which was present yesterday at the inspection with the Roman technicians. As for the timelines, Rome Capital always explains, it should take about a month between ordering the materials and carrying out the work. Appointment for May 1st, 2027.
