The #IRS is building a #ComputerProgram that would give #deportation officers unprecedented access to confidential #tax #data.

ProPublica has obtained a blueprint of the system, which would create an “on demand” process allowing #ICE to obtain the home addresses of people it’s seeking to deport.

Last month, in a previously undisclosed dispute, the acting general counsel at the IRS, Andrew De Mello, refused to turn over the addresses of 7.3M #taxpayers sought by ICE.

To shine a spotlight, a college student from Tennessee is currently creating an app to help people understand sign language easier and I want him to succeed before Duolingo get their paws on the idea.

Today we remember #AdaLovelace Day, famed for her work on #CharlesBabbage's proposed mechanical computer, the #AnalyticalEngine.
In 1843, Lovelace published what would now be recognized as a #computerprogram to generate Bernoulli numbers and was the first to see the creative potential of Babbage's machine.
As for the day honoring Lovelace, its goal is to increase the profile of women in STEM and encourage more girls into #STEM careers.

This reminds me of the first #ComputerProgram I wrote on my #Atari 400 (and stored on an audio cassette). I discovered that if I want to plot a circle with evenly spaced points, I have to define them in polar coordinates and then transform them into Cartesian before plotting.

Funnily enough, I have a vivid memory of one of my teachers, Mrs Skelton, a bully, taking the school assembly, and, reading from a copy of #ReadersDigest, telling us about a #space mission where a #ComputerProgram had a single hyphen in the wrong place and caused a rocket to rapidly disassemble.

This story filled my 9 year old mind with #awe, #wonder, and #terror. I'm not sure what the moral of the story was, but I am now a programmer, who has worked on #SafetyCriticalSystems.
