Angry IP Scanner has released a new version.
And I was named as a contributor 😀

Perhaps I should have titled this, "On the Origin of Characters," as an homage to Darwin. What is the origin of your character? Does your character even have an origin? And does it matter?

CharGen?
"I’m sure when the Model T came out, a lot of horse traders felt personally offended [...] I also find it incredibly hypocritical when artists feel personally offended that AI supposedly steals art [...] You can argue art was “used” without permission, but then you need to define what usage is."
Oder wie wir sagen: Was für ein giant ignorant Asshat
Back in Aug 2023, I created a character generator for my BattlestarGalactica/Traveller universe - based on the popular Traveller chargen program floating around github.
I just realized that I had never made a page so that you could try it if you wanted.
So... click the link to generate your own Colonial Warrior, ready to join the fight with the Battlestar Lance!

Let's see ... Well, time to break out the Wushu section on character generation (http://danielbayn.com/wushu/high-flying-heroes/):

CHRISTOPHER WALKEN
Intimidating Son-of-a-Bitch
Subvert the Dominant Paradigm: 5
If there's one thing Walken knows, it's how to tear down the walls. Is the world around him lawful? He's a criminal. Is heaven at war? He's a rebel angel. Whatever's in play, he's very good at tearing it down.
Bloody Mess: 4
When Walken goes to war, it's going to get bloody. He can swing a hammer straight into your testicles. If he punches you, he may shake his hand in temporary pain, but you're on the ground. Garotte from behind? That's what he likes.

Last #traveller #rpg character creation thoughts for the night.
Hot dog the game gets a lot of world building mileage out of those couple of pages of charts.
The text around it takes a bit to metabolise (I'm on the 1981 Fax edition), but it really boils down to a fairly simple machine, and I love how well it manages to make all of the different services quite different. It's good that "went into business" and an equivalent of Dark Heresy's Scum are in there 1/n.
I have to be honest, three days into the Character Creation Challenge 2024 and I'm reminded exactly how much work it is to write a description of the process of creating a character, even in some relatively mechanics-light systems.
Part of that is my fault, of course. I can't just make the character and present it, I have to walk through the process step-by-step, inch by inch, slowly I turned. I want to present every system in the best possible light, explain the twists and turns of why this or that thing is cool, and generally convey enthusiasm. Plus I'm doing some relatively basic copyediting of my own work which is always a headache, creating the art, and generally making sure it looks okay.
For content which I am pretty sure no one but me actually really cares about. Which is fine… That's the bargain I made with myself ("Thanks, Shadow Dice!") when I started this madness six months ago, under cover of darkness, where no one could see it.
(You've been adding content to that website for six months that no one has seen? Yes. Yes I have.)
I don't actually have a masochistic streak, I just like watching people suffer so much I enjoy watching myself.
Me: Shadowrun characters aren’t that hard to make, now I just need to buy equipment.
One spreadsheet later…
Me: Okay, I’ve spent 21,500¥ on eyes…
