On a discord, trying to explain Classic Traveller to D&D people:
So Classic Traveller is like Original D&D. It started as 3 small books that give enough to be a game, but with a lot of unanswered questions. So each supplement adds a little something new, either new rules or expanding the setting or both. But instead of making a few supplements and then combining and revising and unifying it to make B/X, you just add hundreds of supplements for 10 years.
Maybe I’m not as smart as I used to be.
On the Traveller discord someone was asking about converting a class of ship into GURPS Traveller. I found the class (Fiery) was first introduced in MT Journal #2.
It turns out I have never looked into the MT starship construction rules.
So I have no idea how to interpret a lot of the details or figure out what size fusion power plant it had. But I guess the output was 7740 Mw?

Conversation on discord has me thinking about Traveller again. (Still?)
More precisely, ship sizes. I definitely prefer a smaller ship universe. By MT battleships are 500-700k tons. But even mid CT after high guard things like the Azanti is 60k.
But if we go back to where the Kinunir is a Cruiser at 1,200 tons, and a light mercenary cruiser is 800 tons, what size should we cap battleships and carriers?

I’ve been listening to Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks. It definitely feels a bit like a Traveller adventure, he keeps getting knocked from one bad situation to another. Good read so far.

I thought I’d try this new version of Traveller.

I rather like #T5 rules, but the whole #Megatraveller thing really annoyed me.
As a result I use an extension of the #GurpsTraveller universe, and, to some extent the #MoongoseTraveller rules.
But #ClassicTraveller is what I grew up with, so that is my home.
I was curious if anyone else ever talks about #Traveller5 on here. At least in the feed connected to my server, no. 😅
I know it’s not the most popular edition, but I really love how its rules for building ships and other equipment at all tech levels.
Anyway, if there are other #T5 fans out there, ping me and I’ll give a follow.

I did a rough calculation for 4 TLs, since the classic Scout is TL-C. All 200 ton Far Recons, with fuel for two jumps. So they can jump away from the fleet and return even if the enemy controls fuel sources. Two crew each.
TL-C Talos Class J3 M5
TL-D Malibu Class J3 M6
TL-E Echo Class J4 M6
TL-F Toshiko Class J4 M6
Of course I named them after pets past and present.
