UNSW has a field station in the Central West of New South Wales. A former pastoral science property on Wiradjuri country, since 2010 a groundwater research facility. And since last year, an Australian Critical Zone Observatory. It also has spectacular sunrises and a shed of my dreams. Some of my Australian colleagues are installing Critical Zone Observatories. Infrastructure that will enable us to monitor environmental change from the top of the vegetation to the groundwater.

I arrived at the UNSW Wellington Research Station in time to be put to work, helping install electrodes that will form a permanent geophysics line for measuring soil moisture.
