Some of my Australian colleagues are installing Critical Zone Observatories. Infrastructure that will enable us to monitor environmental change from the top of the vegetation to the groundwater.

I arrived at the UNSW Wellington Research Station in time to be put to work, helping install electrodes that will form a permanent geophysics line for measuring soil moisture.
