About last night...
Setting: a dining room table that seven people are gathered around, six of them have instruments. There is a blueberry cheesecake and mango sticky rice on the table. A pitty bull dog is drooling and waiting for scraps, little yips turning into a song of howls for more mango.
The song Zombie by the cranberries begins to be played, one instrument at a time until I am singing the words, carefully, clearly and then with all of my power. Tears are streaming down my face as I sing this anti-war song:
🎶 with their tanks
and their bombs
and their bombs
and their guns,
in your head,
in your head
they are fighting! 🎶
I've been performing in some capacity since I was 3 years old. But sitting in a dining room, finding and amplifying the groove together, singing for each other, is the most intimate of performances. It lit me up!
Have you ever sang to your friends or family in this way? Or is the best music found on a stage?
