Back in 2014, as part of #europeanmobilityweek , Latvian activists created a visual reminder of the space taken by cars on a typical road.

A wonderful reminder of how bicycles ARE NOT the problem when it comes to congested roads

Cycling Activists Build Bamboo Car Skeletons to Demonstrate Space Taken by Single Occupancy Cars

A few Latvian activists from a branch of the bicycle advocacy group Let’s Bike it recently created a visual reminder of the space taken by cars on a typical road. To accomplish this, the group fabricated bamboo skeletons shaped like actual cars and mounted them on their bikes. The activists then cycled around the streetsContinue reading "Cycling Activists Build Bamboo Car Skeletons to Demonstrate Space Taken by Single Occupancy Cars"

Today has felt productive.
Gave my bike a proper wash down getting the worst of the winter gunk off. It'll need it again before summer.

But also degreased and oiled the chain, cleaned the battery cradle, and replaced the brake pads.

Feels good, man.

This week when I read that HRM spent ELEVEN MILLION DOLLARS on FENCING to keep people out of wildfire damaged properties in Hammonds Plains, I got curious and did some research and you could build the MacDonald Bridge-North Street bike connector TWICE for that price.

Both receipts from @HalifaxExaminer:

Halifax might finally solve the Macdonald bridge bikeway access, though the fix could still take years

There’s been a certain amount of jubilation surrounding the latest city staff report on fixing the access to the Macdonald Bridge Bikeway. A couple of councillors at last week’s Transportation Standing Committee (TSC) meeting joked that it must feel like Christmas for the handful of cycling advocates gathered in the gallery. To be fair, they […]

What's the point of a #bikerack when you can just lift it out of the ground or unbolt it.

Have lost 1 bike that way before and the insurance refused to pay because it was no longer locked to an immovable object once the theif had unbolted it....

“They are supposed to keep bikes safe”: Councillor disappointed at “extremely light” cycle racks leading to bike thefts

Despite the council’s insistence that the cycle parking “meets design requirements”, the Edinburgh councillor has joined cyclists to warn about the racks which can be “easily unscrewed” and pulled out

I've discovered a life hack!

When I cycle my errands, I get so much more than if I were to drive them:
- a chance to connect with people on my way 👥
- I've gotten fitter 💪
- time efficient (errands plus fitness in one!) 🙌
- I feel (potentially) less harried by stupid drivers 🚘
- I feel really positive about how my values align with behaviour 🚲💚
- I value my groceries, etc much more 🛒

See this is where I miss QT:

According to the linked post there are 4 parking spaces for every car in the United States which means that in the land of the free cars have better access to shelter than American human beings.

~one billion ~1,000,000,000 That's how many parking spaces there are in the USA. For every car? About 4 empty spaces... just sitting there, not absorbing the rain, making flooding worse, making cities hotter as they bake in the summer sun. Our built environment and laws bend over backwards to make driving the only viable transportation option in nearly every imaginable context. You need to pay for healthcare, but almost never parking. (Pointing this out makes libertarian heads explode.)

when people say pedal power alone is too limiting remember that on June 12, 1979: The human-powered airplane, Gossamer Albatross, built by AeroVironment, Inc., of Simi Valley, Calif., flew across the English Channel. https://bit.ly/otd-June-10-16

Out in the sun. Not sure where I'm going to go, so I'll just go.
Basket is fixed to frame rather than fork/steering, just like my postie bike so I'm already used to that. Looks just as sturdy.
Will pick up a diamond rated lock for it as well.
