“Boosting #RenewableEnergy integration: #BidirectionalCharging could enable an additional 430 GW of #solar PV capacity by 2040, nearly doubling the current EU capacity.
Reduced storage needs: the need for stationary #battery storage could be cut by up 92% in 2040, while backup power plant capacity could be reduced by 126 GW.”
Batteries on wheels: the untapped potential… | Transport & Environment https://www.transportenvironment.org/articles/batteries-on-wheels-the-untapped-potential-of-ev-batteries “By 2040, widespread adoption of #BidirectionalCharging could reduce annual energy system costs across the EU, by 8.6%, amounting to €22.2 billion in savings per year. Even by 2030, savings of 5.5% or €9.7 billion annually are projected…
#EVs as a major power resource by 2040: EVs could contribute up to 9% of Europe's annual power supply, becoming the 4th largest power supplier.”
It seems that Chinese electric vehicles are not only cheaper but also technically more advanced than European/German EVs since they often enable #bidirectionalCharging.
It would be short sighted and against free market principles to limit imports that are cheaper and superior, and could help stabilise the electric grid.
Bidirectional charging may be required on #EVs soon due to new CA law
"Widespread use of #BidirectionalCharging could lead to huge benefits for efficiency, grid resiliency, and enable much greater penetration of renewable electricity generation."

#SB59, California Senator Skinner’s bill to unlock the bidirectional charging of electric vehicles, has passed out of Appropriations! Next stop: the Assembly floor. Show your support by contacting your Assemblymember here: https://theclimatecenter.org/SB-59
SB 59 — introduced by Senator Nancy Skinner and sponsored by The Climate Center, Union of Concerned Scientists, and NUVVE — aims to unlock the potential for California’s millions of electric vehicles to shore up the electric grid, power homes during outages, and lower energy bills for Californians. The bill would authorize the California Air ... Read more
XCharge NA to build Level 3 EV charging superhub in Texas
The installation at Watters Creek Village in the Dallas area will soon be the largest of a new non-Tesla DC fast-charging hub, according to the maker of the Net Zero Series EV charger said to be the first truly battery-integrated EV charger in the U.S. with bi-directional grid support.

Tesla delivers first Cybertrucks
Shorter, lower, wider, and $20,000-$30,000 more expensive than the Cybertruck previewed in 2019, the new truck is packed with innovations including “an all-new” user interface and Tesla firsts of bi-directional charging, steer-by-wire, rear steering, and 48-V low-voltage electrical system.

I was interested in getting a F150 Lightning because of its bidirectional charging capabilities but the cost of the truck and the cost of the Ford's Charging Station (already included if you get the extended range Lightning) and Ford's Home Integration system plus the cost of upgrading your electrical panel (if necessary) to 100 amps could cost $10-15k on top of the typical $80-100k asking price for the truck. So, I decided to pass on that idea. LOL! 😉
However, there's still hope that more affordable bi-directional EV charging will become available sooner or later as the following article suggests:
