There are now more ways to access Bible radio:

  • There's a new web interface at https://freespoken.nz/@BibleRadio
  • It has an RSS feed at https://freespoken.nz/@BibleRadio/feed.xml so you can follow it as a podcast if you want
  • You can (try to) follow @BibleRadio from your fediverse account, though there has been some trouble with that. At present, I suspect it may not work if you're on a Streams server, but during testing, a different server sometimes failed and sometimes succeeded in following the Bible radio account; let me know if you have trouble.

And the XMPP channel is still there, too: xmpp:[email protected].nz?join

@Mklt129 @ladyhope @pixelate I've just put John chapter 9 on Bible radio. It must be one of my favourite chapters, but I wasn't even thinking about that being one of the coming-up chapters when I asked about the accessibility of Bible radio.

@Mklt129 Thanks for testing! And don't worry about the delay; you replied in under 24 hours, which is quicker than I often reply to people, and there was no obligation to reply at all, if you didn't want to.

I'm glad you enjoyed listening to the recordings!

The URL text next to the player for each audio recording is visible, too, so it's not just screen reader users who might find it distracting, but I'm not sure whether that's a bug; it's potentially something that might have been chosen deliberately. Funnily enough, though, the URL text is shown under each corresponding player, not before it, as you were reporting, if I understood you correctly.

For what it's worth, I tried using TalkBack on Android both on the web version and in Snikket, using a proper XMPP account, and while I won't say it was easy (though I don't have much experience with TalkBack), the audio was playable both ways, and Snikket doesn't have the distracting URL text, so if you're wanting to listen to the recordings long-term, you might find a real XMPP account to be a preferable way to do it (though I don't have an iDevice, so I can't test the iOS version of Snikket, which is based on a different app from the Android version). These options might also work for @ladyhope, too, if she's wanting to listen long-term, and has a smartphone or tablet.

I'm really not sure whether the stuttering is the fault of VoiceOver or ConverseJS or Safari or something else.

@ladyhope I've filed a bug report at https://github.com/conversejs/converse.js/issues/3382#issue-2244995407

It's possible the developer will want more information from you, but let's see what happens.

@ladyhope Thanks for all your feedback. I was hoping it would work better, but now I guess I can try to arrange for an improved version. I don't know much about web development in general or web accessibility in particular, so I might start with a bug report to the developer.

@ladyhope I'd be just as interested in whether the web interface at https://freespoken.nz/bible-radio/ works for you.

If someone like @Mklt129, @ladyhope, or @pixelate tries the above, I'd be interested to know how accessible you find it. The web interface uses ConverseJS, which is open source, as are most popular XMPP clients, so there are good prospects of improvement if you find it hard to use in some way.

Recently I've started to share my weekday Bible readings more widely, using an XMPP channel. So if you want to listen to me (or sometimes @DMakarios) reading passages from Gloria Wall's reading plan http://www.wall.org/~gloria/lect/index.html using public domain translations, you can join: xmpp:[email protected].nz?join

Or, if you don't have an XMPP account, and don't want one, you can still participate at https://freespoken.nz/bible-radio/

I started doing this on Good Friday, so if you want, you can even scroll back that far and listen to the older recordings.

I don't edit stumbles out of my recordings before I post them, but a kind participant is reposting edited versions of some of my recordings.
