Using EDIT to adjust my AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files to maximize the available lower memory. All of these drivers are eating up my precious memory! But... over 600K isn't too bad! 👍

P.S. Yes, I am using the classic codepage 437, as it is so much more compatible than 850 for older games. 😉

Kategorie "verlorenes Wissen":
Viele alte Spiele unter MS-DOS benötigen oft freien konventionellen Speicher (RAM) in den unteren 640 Kb, selbst, wenn das System über mehrere MB im sogenannten oberen Speicherbereich verfügt.

Beispiel:
"Dune II - Battle for Arrakis" benötigt laut Handbuch 564 Kb konventionellen Speicher.

Update: Workaround found (see bottom of post)...

DOS folks, I have been trying to figure out why my Gravis Ultrasound soundcard is not behaving with a new boot volume, and I have narrowed it down to the loading or not-loading of a DOS CD-ROM driver (only produces sound when driver is loaded(!)). This makes no sense to me.

I have just boiled down the synopsis and listed the autoexec.bat and config.sys sections in this post on my thread. I'd appreciate any help I can get, here. So odd...
