A ★★★★ review of Sanshiro Sugata (1943)

Saw this on big screen in Bruges, back in 2001. One of the themes: 'From Akira Kurosawa to Kung-Fu (and beyond).' David Bordwell (rest his soul) explained interesting stuff about martial arts movies and needles to say also about Kurosawa. In one week we could watch a lot of Asian films and Hong Kong cinema specifically. It was a tiring week (movies, lessons from morning till midnight), and it's been 25 years. Also my roommate snored all nights long... made me dead-tired so fell asleep during some of the movies. So, bottom line, I don't remember a lot from this
