'Wagons East!' had such potential but ended up being just kind meh.

I say that about a lot of John Candy movies.

A ★½ review of Wagons East! (1994)

You can feel the actors trying, doing everything they can with the characters they were given but they were given nothing by the script or director. I’m not even sure there are jokes in the script just setups they expected to come together on set and in the edit but that requires the cast, director, and editor to know what they’re doing which I’m not convinced is true of the latter two.

A ★★½ review of The Most Dangerous Game (1978)

A lot of unbelievable feats from an unlikable protaganist. Plenty of sex and violence, though. And a great funky soundtrack.

A ★★★★ review of The Last Detail (1973)

LB Roulette #118 from Jordan What a weird and wild ride. Everyone in this just felt like a real person.

A ★★★ review of Dr. No (1962)

Whitewashing and racisms aside this is a really good spy film with a cool story that gets a little lost at the end. This first outing for James Bond holds up well years later. ‘That’s a Smith and Wesson, and you’ve had your six.’ might be one of my favorite Bond lines as he coldly dispatches his would be assassin. I would rate it higher but alas, the lens of time makes this movie a bit of a jarring watch despite my mind constantly reassuring me "it was a different time". At least James Bond is not yet a cringey

A ★★★★★ review of Mysterious Skin (2004)

This inspired a list; great films that I want to scrub from my brain.  Very tough watch, some of the most uncomfortable scenes I’ve ever sat through.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1996 - ★★★★

Handles remarkable darkness and character complexity without becoming inappropriate for children. The music is perfect.

'The Loveless' is the type of movie that could have become the right person's entire identity if they had seen it as a teen.

A ★★★½ review of The Loveless (1981)

This is very film school (complementary). At least that was my first thought, that this “just letting the moment breathe” style of film-making feels like the type of thing a film school student would like, would try and screw up but they didn’t screw it up. This works, it looks good, and no moment outstays its welcome. It doesn’t leave a lot of room for plot, not a lot happens, but it doesn’t need it since it’s almost a hangout picture.
