I have always been afraid of watching war-themed queer films.
But at the recently concluded Cannes Film Festival, two European queer films that both competed in the main competition and won major awards, Coward and The Black Ball, managed to break that pattern for me.

Do me a huge favor, please, and watch, rate with ⭐️, and leave a short, honest review for the first movie from our tiny movie studio @famebot ❣️
Prove to the world I'm not crazy for spending so much time posting here on #Mastodon and celebrating the #Fediverse and #ActivityPub
Turning a straight man gay: it’s a fantasy many #gay men have had at some point.
I’m embarrassed to admit I was no exception.
I eventually moved on from that fantasy, but the pain of having my feelings worn down and used up still comes back sometimes.

I have recently gone on record saying that I am tired of nice queers in media. That the current era of happy ever afters (HOAs) was a response to collective trauma (i.e., the AIDS crisis, the conservatism of the Hays and Television code, etc.) and that, although the HOAs we see now are understandable, their abundance seems like an overcorrection.

In the 1990 psychological horror movie Jacob’s Ladder, Jacob’s flaky back has given out yet again, and he’s in agony. His trusted chiropractor Louis is fixing the ailing Vietnam veteran, but each treatment is only a temporary salve.

Deadloch series:
Omg, this is a good one, Season 2 out today I think. I’ll let you read the review, it’s great. You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe…
“One of the first establishing shots in the show is of garbage cans with ACAB spray painted on them, which sets up an appropriately complex frame for the main character cops out of the gate. The show begins with two Indigenous teenage girls walking down a dark road to a deserted beach with exactly the kind of foreboding cinematography and musical score you’d expect at the beginning of a crime series. It plays with the expectation, so tragically grounded in the real-life experiences of missing and murdered Indigenous women, that one of them will be the victim, but instead Tammy Hampson (Leonie Whyman) trips over the dead naked guy, drops her cigarette, and sets his pubic hair on fire. It really sets the tone for the show.”

Pillion is a coming-of-age tale as much as a love story. Through Ray, Colin makes contact with an entirely new plane of existence. He learns that being a sub, for him, is a style of being that gives him greater community, self-knowledge, and sexual satisfaction.

More bitching on the queer word having changed its meaning.
Queer filmmfestivals: Submit your queer content films. Make sure it is clearly recognisable (aka non binary people looking cis are not performative nor interesting enough, please fuck off). Pay submisssion fees even if your project has no budget. We don't pay screening fees and we use public and private funding and submission fees to pay ourselves and some production partners with market fees. Because community labor has to be paid (our labor, ofc, but we dont have enough to pay the artists, or if, very symbolic fees).
What happened to queer being something we do instead of an identity, and what happened to lets get rid of extractivism and of unequal distribution of ressources?
honey, that queer l or even feminist label is quite misplaced. And people accept it, including the queer community/ies.
