Animal studies to interdyscyplinarna dziedzina nauki obejmująca humanistyczny namysł nad statusem i sytuacją osób zwierzęcych. Łączy zagadnienia z zakresu językoznawstwa, prawa, filozofii i socjologii. Na jej gruncie rozważana jest kwestia języka, jakim posługujemy się mówiąc o osobach zwierzęcych, ich status prawny oraz myślowe schematy, które przekładają się na stosunek ludzi do innych istot. Animal studies stanowi wartościowe narzędzie w codziennym działaniu zmierzającym do poprawy dobrostanu zwierząt.
To już trzecie spotkanie dyskusyjne, podczas którego skupimy się na kwestii języka, jakiego używamy, mówiąc o zwierzętach. Zastanowimy się nad jego rolą w kształtowaniu schematów myślowych oraz nad sposobem, w jaki wpływa nie tylko na nasze codzienne relacje ze zwierzętami, ale także na definiujące je prawo.

The escalation of human-wildlife conflict in India cannot be explained solely by species behaviour or environmental disruption. It is also deeply social and political, rooted in contestations over land use, governance, and resource distribution. Yet social science accounts often overlook wildlife's agency and responsiveness to anthropogenic change, where animals are portrayed as passive victims of development agendas. What might an alternative approach look like if we are to move beyond framing these encounters as conflict, recognize the agency of both human and nonhuman animals, and account for the ecological, political and ethical complexities of coexistence?
