In 1995, 27 years ago today, White Wolf Gaming Studio published Changeling: The Dreaming, a role-playing game about people who realize they're faeries. In real life, the #otherkin community had already existed since 1990, & they felt the game reflected their feelings eerily well, though the game designers weren't otherkin. They talked about this in Nick Mamatas's 2001 Village Voice article about otherkin, "Elven Like Me:"

The alterhuman calendar (#AhCal) project is for remembering community history, plus holidays, such as days for appreciating certain kinds of animals.
The United Nations designated May 20 as #WorldBeeDay to raise awareness that these pollinators are a part of the ecosystem the world can't live without. Plus, #bees are fascinating. Humans have kept bees for all history, but science learns new & surprising things about these smart, social #insects all the time.

In 1998, 24 years ago today, a unicorn otherkin called Fadeyr created a web-site
for #unicorn #otherkin, Always Believe (which has since vanished without archive, afaik). Fadeyr hadn't known of any others who called themselves unicorns before this, but several unicorn kin joined right away. You can learn more about their history in the Otherkin Timeline:

In 1997, 25 years ago today, Lion Templin wrote "Building Blocks to Contherianthropy," the final essay in a 4-part series about therians who don't experience any kind of shape-shifting. Lion originally posted them to alt.horror.werewolves, the group where therianthropy as we know it originated. Later, Lion posted them to the personal site:
