Two different kinds of “focusable” UI elements · Eric Eggert

In accessibility, “focusable” UI elements are represented by two separate yet equally important concepts: the elements who can be focused …

It seems that I am unable to edit posts on the main Friendica page. No matter what I do, the edit link, or whatever it is, does nothing. Fortunately, I am able to do so on Pachli. However, there is no keyboard shortcut available for this, which forces me to use the touchscreen. Likewise, there are no hotkeys to easily navigate posts etc. I wouldn't mind it if I could easily navigate my timeline, etc, as I can on the website, by using headings and so on. But at least, I can now edit my posts with something other than Tweesecake..

“Should form labels be wrapped or separate?” by @siblingpastry

> All browsers and assistive technologies support explicit association, however implicit association is not reliably supported by voice control software.
>
> Both Dragon Naturally Speaking for Windows, and Voice Control for macOS and iOS, don’t recognize implicit association, so the "Click email address" command wouldn’t work.

Should form labels be wrapped or separate? - TPGi — a Vispero company

Is it strictly necessary for form fields and labels to have for/id association, or is it enough to wrap the label around the input?

TPGi — a Vispero company
The past months I really had a hard time because due to brain fog and dizziness I hardly could read except for short sentences so I couldn't be on any kind of community be it blue sky Mastodon or Reddit
Now I finally found out that the Android screen reader works better for me then the one on IOS for various reasons I even found a way how to read multilingual content and not only hear the German voice speaking in English which Sounds terrible #blind #visualllyimpaired #accesssibility #mecfs

@aral it's far from the only long-term accessibility problem either. I keep looking for a Linux OS to put on a smartphone that I'm not pretty much guaranteed to start physically breaking no matter how careful I am with my phone within a week but so far none are compatible with the rugged phones that would hold up with my handling.

Ankle/wrist weights will combat my neuropathy enough for consistent walking & likely knife use but won't stop my dropping of small things like phones.

Overall the pattern keeps repeating - loads of energy & time spent fighting on wording of how to direct the complaint or actually fix the problems- but not much if any on actually solving the #Accesssibility problems.

@ned

Don't discount the possibility that children or disabled people using wheelchairs won't have access either! Even assuming this were useful, where would such scanners be placed?

(Remember Calgary's fancy new stair-laden library has an elevator for #accesssibility but they put the buttons up too high for wheelchair users to reach to prevent children from 'playing' with them. (Hopefully this has since been fixed).)

Lately, I've been learning more about how to use VoiceOver to better understand the experience of people who use it, and for accessibility testing.

I put together a quick cheatsheet of the few commands I've been using if you want to try as well! 🙂
