Dacia Duster brings the “e-Hybrid” technology even to the real off-road vehicle.

The Dacia’s “super hybrid” is the 154 hp three-fuel system that also includes all-wheel drive and electronically managed automatic transmission. The Hybrid-G 150 4×4 (with a wading depth of 45 centimeters and approach and departure angles of 31 and 36 degrees) is currently unique and is offered on the Duster (but also on the Bigster) starting from €28,500. The powertrain is based on a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with front-wheel drive producing 140 hp, which can also be fueled by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), a less expensive and more sustainable option (over fifteen kilometers per CO2 less per kilometer). This is combined with a rear electric unit with a maximum power of 31 hp and a lithium-ion battery of 0.84 kWh for energy recovery during deceleration and braking. This means the Duster can circulate in zero-emission mode, which, according to tests conducted by the manufacturer, can reach up to 60% of the time in urban environments.

The engine’s torque is 230 Nm, while that of the electric motor (non-cumulative) is 87. The transmission is a six-speed dual-clutch (front) with two ratios on the rear engine: “Gear changes are quick, the steering-wheel controls allow for immediate control in off-road or towing situations, and the “N” mode disengages the clutch to reduce friction when front-wheel drive traction is sufficient,” Dacia promises. The two ratios on the rear electric motor are a major innovation in the segment, guaranteeing high torque at low speeds as well as the speed of the electric unit at high speeds, “extending the 4×4 coverage to 140 km/h, always with maximum efficiency.”

The Duster is paired with 48-Volt mild hybrid technology that limits the consumption of thermal units to the rationality of LPG, which costs half as much as gasoline and a third as much as diesel. Equipped this way, the SUV is accredited with a range of up to 1,500 kilometers thanks to 50-liter tanks (one for LPG and one for gasoline) with respective consumption figures of 14.1 and 18.2 liters per 100 kilometers. “These combination of innovative technologies guarantee performance, operational savings and off-road capabilities, making Dacia’s SUV suitable for urban use as well as long trips and adventure,” the manufacturer assures.

Several driving modes are also provided, which the driver can select based on usage: Auto, for automatic 4×2/4×4 management during daily use, Eco, which prioritizes electric start-up and fuel savings, Snow, for greater control on slippery and snowy surfaces, Mud / Sand for optimized dynamics on muddy paths, Lock, for maximum traction during off-road driving at low speeds, and Hill Descent Control, for controlling descents between 3 and 30 km/h. The maximum speed of this version is 180 km/h with a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 10.2 seconds. With the repair kit (i.e., without the spare wheel), the luggage capacity ranges from 400 to 1,527 liters depending on the position of the seats in the second row.

“My band is traveling around airports. We are organizing to rent the instruments”: Jovanotti on the chaos of the stranded terminals in the Middle East.

Due to the ongoing conflict in Iran, in addition to the two Dubai airports, which were also hit by drones, Abu Dhabi, Doha in Qatar, and the Kuwait International Airport remain blocked. They are key hubs for travel between Europe, Africa, and Asia. Meanwhile, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency has extended the ban on flights to the Middle East and the Persian Gulf until March 6th. This situation has led to a sudden halt to tourism and business travel.

Which has happened in part to Jovanotti who is bringing his tour to Australia to perform on March 5th in Brisbane (Lyric Theatre) and March 6th in Adelaide (WOMADelaide Festival). The international tour is part of the “L’Arca di Loré” project.

“I am 100 kilometers from Brisbane where I will hold my first concert in Australia tomorrow. I came here with Francesca, – he said in a video on Instagram – we rented a car and we did not anticipate that the airports would be blocked to get here. My band is around the airports, now I’m in Seoul, then they’ll go to Sydney and then Brisbane. We’re traveling with carry-on luggage. We are organizing to rent instruments to play in Brisbane and after tomorrow in Adelaide, music isn’t a primary thing but we’re doing this. Tomorrow we’ll try to bring joy to this part of the world to an audience of Italians or of Italian origin, we’ll celebrate life through music and I’m waiting for my band.”

And still: “Certainly making music at this time is a strange activity but we do this. Years ago I visited Iran touring it by bike for a month and 10 days in Tehran where I was struck by the desire for freedom of the young people and their desire to feel part of a more open world. Iran is a beautiful country with a wonderful and profound culture. I pray for the peace and freedom of everyone, wherever they were born. May the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) be fulfilled, this is the task of my generation, still too often unfulfilled.”
