Agi: Recuperato l'elmo d'oro di Cotofenesti, un tesoro di 2500 anni

AGI - Le autorità olandesi hanno annunciato il recupero del prezioso elmo d'oro di Cotofenesti, tesoro nazionale rumeno di 2.500 anni, sottratto lo scorso anno da un museo nei Paesi Bassi. Il reperto, simbolo della civiltà dacia, è stato presentato giovedì ad Assen sotto stretta sorveglianza della polizia d'élite.
Insieme all'elmo, le autorità hanno rinvenuto due dei tre braccialetti dorati asportati durante il colpo. Il recupero è frutto di un accordo tra la procura e tre uomini arrestati poco dopo il furto, il cui processo inizierà a fine aprile.
"Siamo incredibilmente soddisfatti," ha dichiarato Corien Fahner, del servizio di procura. "È stata una montagna russa. Soprattutto per la Romania, ma anche per i dipendenti del Museo di Drents." Resta ancora aperta la ricerca dell'ultima fascia mancante, come confermato dalla stessa Fahner.
Le condizioni dei reperti
Nonostante i timori iniziali che l'elmo potesse essere fuso a causa della sua invendibilità sul mercato nero, il pezzo è tornato integro, sebbene non intonso. Il direttore del Drents Museum, Robert van Langh, ha precisato: "Il casco è leggermente ammaccato, ma non ci saranno danni permanenti. Le fasce sono in perfette condizioni."
La dinamica del furto
Il furto era avvenuto nel gennaio 2025, durante l'ultimo fine settimana di una mostra semestrale. I malviventi avevano fatto irruzione nel museo utilizzando una bomba pirotecnica artigianale, una mazza e un piede di porco, come testimoniato dai video di sorveglianza che hanno ripreso l'esplosione e l'ingresso forzato di tre individui.

AGI - Dutch authorities have announced the recovery of the valuable golden helmet of Cotofenesti, a national treasure of Romania dating 2,500 years, stolen last year from a museum in the Netherlands. The artifact, a symbol of Dacia’s civilization, was presented on Thursday in Assen under strict surveillance by an elite police force.

Together with the helmet, authorities have recovered two of the three golden bracelets stolen during the theft. The recovery is the result of an agreement between the prosecutor’s office and three men arrested shortly after the theft, whose trial will begin at the end of April.

“We are incredibly satisfied,” said Corien Fahner of the prosecutor’s office. “It’s been a rollercoaster. Especially for Romania, but also for the employees of the Drents Museum.” The search for the missing final bracelet remains open, as confirmed by Fahner herself.

Despite initial fears that the helmet might have been melted down due to its unmarketability on the black market, the piece has returned intact, although unblemished. The perpetrators broke into the museum using a homemade pyrotechnic device, a hammer, and a crowbar, as evidenced by the surveillance videos that captured the explosion and the forced entry of three individuals.

The incident had provoked a serious diplomatic crisis between Amsterdam and Bucharest. Last year, Romanian Justice Minister Radu Marinescu had described the incident as a “crime against our state,” reiterating that the recovery of the artifacts represented an “absolute priority.” The return of the national treasure marks the conclusion of a case that has kept the international archaeology world on its toes.
