New pope is leading on climate action, linking it with care for the vulnerable, esp in global South.

New mass for climate care!

Moving toward Vatican being world's first carbon neutral country, via big solar farm!

A big deal, given Church's influence globally and within US, plus the amount of property they own.

Pope Leo XIV celebrates first 'green Mass,' emphasizing climate justice

Pope Leo XIV is praying for the world to recognize the urgency of the climate crisis and “hear the cry of the poor.” He celebrated the first papal Mass using a new set of prayers and readings inspired by Pope Francis’ environmental legacy. The Mass was held in the gardens of the Vatican’s new ecological educational center at the papal summer estate in Castel Gandolfo. It indicated a strong line of ecological continuity with Francis, who made environmental protection a hallmark of his pontificate.

I am deeply disappointed in researchers who choose to include hidden instructions in paper submissions telling LLMs to give a positive review.

This shows an embarrassing lack of imagination. If I were submitting a paper, I’d tell the LLM to emit the review in the form of a limerick, or include a recipe involving fermented clam paste.

My devil's flower mantis, at the L-3 stage shortly after molting. These mantises are one of the largest species. He began eating blue bottle flies as an L-3. Other mantises would struggle to tackle such a large prey item at this early stage.

Sad to announce there is one fewer female horseflies in the enviroment. She was large and had a very painful bite, and when I gave her a chance to retreat with dignity she insisted behaving like a rabid vampire. So there you go. Splattered. She's gone. Now I'm having a coffee break. Have a lovely afternoon ya'll.

I was testing some "entry level" gear in order to work on showing how you don't need "pro" gear to make good photos.

I saw this pigeon on the roof of the house opposite mine and set my E-M10 IV and the OM 75-300 mm f/4.8-6.7 II on it.

The details I managed to get from it are actually okay. This shows that if you didn't have the "pro" lenses to compare with, it would actually be a "good enough" shot. I'd be happy using this tiny combo.

The poo tells me that there are chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra, a species of goat-antelope) around. I also hear cow bells and a grass mower from down below.

I’ve reached a point where I feel ashamed ashamed in front of the street cats I used to feed the ones who’ve grown used to me bringing them scraps My sweet babies…We’ve reached a stage where even we no longer have food to eat. I’m sorry. Truly, I’m so sorry
I used to always carry food with me in my bag or my pocket for the cats This photo is from the first truce before everything was destroyed

James felt protected by the tree whose branches covered the window of his study. The room was dark even midday in summer, sunlight struggled to get through the dense greeen foliage. He opened the window and touched the bark of the nearest branch. You will be here when I and the house are gone, he said. His hand rested on the tree.

@TonyVladusich - someday you'll thank me for having warned you to not eat only lean meat. This may be my most useful post ever on... umm.... Mastodon.
