I'm a retired electrical engineer latterly working on fibre optic network design. Living in the Vale of Glamorgan I love being out walking our retriever, Ruby. Interests include the #enviroment, #walking, #art, #engineering, #science, #history, #archaeology, #politics and #rugby.

We are advised not to do this in the UK because our privatised water companies are dumping raw sewage into every single one.
Sadly, as we are not part of the #EU the clean water laws (and penalties) no longer apply.
@simonzerafa It should be illegal for companies to deploy AI that doesn’t introduce itself as such at the very least. Should be illegal, period, given the environmental impact. And by environment impact, I mean its destruction of our own habitat.

Guy next to me at the cafe I’m working out of this morning gets a call:

“… no we don’t live there anymore… no… no, we don’t live there anymore… are you serious?! [my ears perk up] Is this AI?… It is?!”

Spoke to him afterwards. Apparently “some energy company.” And it was an LLM on the other side. He said it sounded so real (a woman who gave him her name and sounded perfectly normal) until he asked it if it was AI when it responded “yes” and then restarted the script.

The Sustainable Farming Scheme design is finally done; check out our full reaction here. We’ll continue to work with Welsh Gov and all others to make it as good as it needs to be for nature and climate: https://waleslink.org/response-to-final-sustainable-farming-scheme-design/

Afternoon, Twters!

I just this morning remembered that home-made iced coffee is a thing, and I've had three and am now practically vibrating. 😄

I'm also running out of ice.

We've borrowed a 'swamp-cooler' type fan from a friend and it's just taking the edge off, but at 32 degrees, I don't think we're going to have a good day of it.

Hope you're all staying hydrated and as cool as you can. 🌞

I can't get enough of this. #WompWomp

Trump and DOGE cut $1 billion in funding that helped schools and food banks buy food from local farmers.
Days later, Trump hosted Elon Musk on the White House lawn and bought a $90,000 Tesla.
It couldn't be clearer that we are living in a second Gilded Age.

Just Stop Oil target #Musk by pouring orange gunge over #Tesla robot

Just Stop Oil protesters poured orange powdered paint over a robot at a Tesla shop in west London, the Metropolitan Police said. Retired teacher Catherine Rennie Nash, 74, and former tax adviser Nigel Fleming, 63, climbed onto a podium display in the store in Shepherd’s Bush on Wednesday morning. They tipped paint over the robot and unfurled a Just Stop Oil banner, in what they said was a protest against the company's owner Elon Musk and billionaires “jeopardising climate science” and threatening democracy. A Met Police spokesperson said: “Two people have been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage after police were called to a shopping centre in Ariel Way, Shepherd’s Bush, at 10am on Wednesday March 12. “A 63-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman allegedly sprayed the front of a shop with what is believed to be powdered paint.”
