Here's our latest blog from @RSPB on if our most at-risk and precious species are really being helped by sites designated for them.

SSSIs, SACs, SPAs, 'designated landscapes', nature reserves... whatever you call them, how are they doing for nature?

Protected Sites – Safe havens for Wales’ wildlife? - Wales Environment Link

Guest Blog: Rachel Bedwin at RSPB Cymru Nature is in crisis in Wales – wildlife numbers are plummeting, with one in six species at risk of being lost from Wales according to the State of Nature 2023. Our key - in full in the manifesto PDFs - explains each numbered area and links to briefings and sites with more information.

We just HAVE to spend more time trying to get to that nature-rich future, instead of the nature-poor dystopia we risk hurtling into if we keep taking nature for granted.

We’re pleased the manifesto comes with our new Nature-Rich Wales graphics; these depictions of healthy & unhealthy rivers, farms & seas show the two paths to a nature-rich Wales and a nature-poor Wales. One where the Welsh Gov listens and one where we keep taking our environment for granted.
We set out asks on eight areas, focused on bringing Wales back from the brink of the nature crisis. These are the essential things the Welsh Government, whoever is elected from May 2026, need to start doing to stop our species going extinct, pollution running rampant & our food systems collapsing.

We're pleased to launch our 2026 manifesto for the Senedd elections today!

We're holding a panel event at Climate Cymru's 'Act Now, Change Forever' mass lobby this week! We'd love to see you there, pop by anytime between 2pm and 3:30pm, to discuss all things Environment Bill.

Details attached + more info available online here: https://waleslink.org/wel-panel-at-climate-cymrus-mass-lobby-act-now-change-forever/

We've launched a new UK-wide report today on our '30 by 30' commitments - to protect and manage at least 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030. https://nation.cymru/news/wales-on-course-to-miss-nature-target-by-a-country-mile/

Nature isn't just 'nice to have'; it's essential to maintain if we're to continue with our way of life. Check out the report here: https://www.wcl.org.uk/assets/uploads/0/WCL_04_30x30Report2025_DIGITAL.pdf

We support calls from @RSPB for Welsh Gov to stop delaying a decision on licensing gamebird releases. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckg2x9wpdjro

Bird flu compounds the risk of activities that already increase competition with rare species - like curlew & black grouse - for food. Why the delay?
