I have just discovered that my library now subscribes to Little Looms in the Libby app, and this pleases me immensely. Guess I know what I'm doing with my "I have ten minutes to kill and no idea what to do, guess I'll read a thing" time for the next few weeks.
Square 39 of my #stitchSamplerBlanket is Tunisian keyhole lace.
It combines a bit more stitches then normally, there's no less then six stitches involved, including yarn overs. Also it deviates from the rule that you should always have the same amount of loops on the hook after forward pass as you chained initially. The two row pattern have a lesser amount every other row, curtesy of double stitch two together, compensated by a chain one on the return pass. #crochet #TunisianCrochet @crochet

New blog post: https://garaksapprentice.blogspot.com/2023/09/alpaca-in-australia.html

I give a very brief overview of the alpaca industry in Aus, focusing on fibre (I'm a fibre nerd after all, but in the future I would like to look more into where things are going with meat production. Ditto their use in regenerative farming systems).

Blogger broke when I tried to add a photo of this cutie, so here have an alpaca pic too.

Not to be a joyless communist, but if we can’t have chocolate without slavery, we shouldn’t have chocolate.

Nestle says slavery reporting requirements could cost customers

Australia's government has proposed to make it mandatory for big businesses to report on how they're combating modern slavery.

The Sydney Morning Herald

Whether it's education, employment, healthcare, or mental health support, Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders have the lowest participation rates in Australia, yet they experience disproportionately high incarceration rates, particularly among their children. This disparity exists because government programs in this country are designed and executed without considering their needs.

Migrants like myself are able to achieve opportunities in a system that the British monarchy built at the expense of the lives, freedom, dignity, and agency of the original settlers in this country.

Establishing a consultative body at the parliamentary level is definitely a positive step, and your "YES" vote in the upcoming referendum will help achieve that.

This does not constitute affirmative action, nor will it grant special veto powers. Concerns about the supposed unintended consequences of The Voice largely stem from racist and elitist viewpoints.

You may choose to remain ignorant of the history and present-day oppression faced by First Nations people, but at the very least, recognise your privilege. #VoteYes
