Now that I’ve learned to spin the fibers, I understand the importance of taking greater care when removing the seeds because this cotton already has a very short staple (less than 1”). The first time I ginned this cotton, I was way more rough and I ended up tearing many of the fibers. I was still able to spin them, though. 🧵 #Fibers #FiberArts #NativePlants #spinning

I have found a #theoretical way to stop a massive #Black #hole from #spinning.

#Chuck #Norris just have to #roundhouse kick to the #opposite direction of the #spin.

I made these 😁
Four little centre pull balls and one little ball from a tangled mess that wasn't bad to untangle.

It's not much, and each ball represents a break in the single, but I'm really proud of myself. I spun all of this with a spindle, mostly whilst waiting for trains, waiting for automated tasks to run at work, waiting for headaches to pass... It's been soothing every time. I should now ply all of it but I kinda really like the singles... We'll see.

I got some lovely wool to start #spinning
Borrowed a wheel that was handmade by my friend's grandfather, probably never used.

I looked at lots of YouTube and reddit pages, but so far it all works except that the flyer doesn't rotate. So haven't been able to see if my hands remember how to spin, yet

I have one more thing to try... lubricate the thing. Need to figure out what kind of oil I should get (which is easily available here, not through some webshop preferably).

Today I enjoyed spinning as I waited for automated work tasks to complete.

I'm focusing on spinning the fibre thicker than my brain instinctively wants to (why does it want everything to be super thin 🤔), and attempting to let go of the urge to demand the thickness be always the same (I'm happy to report I'm mostly successful in accepting a wonky yarn. After all, I'm only beginning and I'm not after commercially available yarn).

🎉 Wow, Blender's grand plan to stay "relevant" involves yet another "innovation space" where people can pretend to work hard while creatively avoiding real progress! 🕺 Isn't it just adorable how they keep #spinning their wheels in a never-ending cycle of complexity and #technical debt? 🚀

Introducing an innovation space within the Blender project.

The reason people think of sheep as white is that many "improved" breeds were bred to have white fleeces. I think in most sheep now, having colored fleece or spotted fleece is a recessive trait, as in its rare. That's what the wool industry/yarn industry wants.

Its like having a grey, brown or black merino sheep. Its super rare because the industry wants white sheep for textiles.

If you only see white sheep, you'll think all sheep are white. *shrug*

Shetland sheep are technically placed under the primitive breeds of sheep. That is, they haven't been "improved" by cross breeding with other sheep breeds to produce uniform colored fleece, or larger bodies, or "softer" fleeces. (Shetland fleece can be soft. It just depends on flocks and genetics.)

Their fleece is EXTREMELY elastic tho. And fluffy when spun into yarn. Very insulating. The sheep had to evolve to live in a harsh climate.
