With SeqFu, I routinely extract the index information from the FASTQ files; it helps with the traceability of samples from the lab and can sometimes be used to spot inconsistencies.

A celebratory #throwback with the posters from Lawrence and Kniss, that managed to show how science works in two posters. Kudos to them.

For comparison, same Kraken2 classification of higher quality bins. In both cases bins had completeness > 80, contamination < 30, total size > 0.5Mb, sorted by contamination crescent took the first 5.

But classifying each contig with a comprehensive Kraken2 database shows the problem is multiple species present, leading to the LCA being pushed very high up.

Nothing new here... just an ordinary rabbit hole chase in the #bioinformatician 's life :)
