A month ago, my friend Jenn woke up with the whole right side of her body paralyzed and called out to her housemate Christy for help.

Christy realized quickly that Jenn was having a stroke, called 911, and got assertive with an EMT who thought Jenn (who doesn't drink) was just drunk.

Now Christy has to relocate because Jenn's parents are moving into the house to support her recovery.

@BrianJopek @glennf - "woke" is a term that started in Black communities almost a century ago to remind one another not to let the system gaslight them.

The fact that the right has co-opted it as a way to blanket dismiss anyone who is concerned about social injustice is appalling.

I’m worried about what’s happening in FL but I’m not interested in abandoning the state or going off half cocked without listening to people who are directly impacted.
