Good news: Sync-in is now part of the Docker-Sponsored Open Source Program.

This is an important milestone for the project and brings a concrete benefit to users: no pull rate limits for public images from our project namespace.

Thanks to Docker for supporting open source projects, and thanks to everyone using, testing, sharing, or contributing to Sync-in.

This has nothing to do with the “anchoring” feature we provide. What you’re describing is a different feature that we also offer, called “external location.”

In any case, we’re here for those looking for a more fluid and lightweight alternative 🙂

@fossham

We are the only ones to offer nested sharing management and the anchoring feature. Native collaborative spaces do not exist in Nextcloud, and our WebDAV implementation is fully integrated into our security design, without relying on any third-party libraries.

There are many other differences as well, and the best way to fully understand them is to read the documentation and simply try it out 🙂

Sync-in is not a fork or rebranded version of Nextcloud. It’s a project with its own history, started over 10 years ago, built from the ground up on a TypeScript stack, with a fundamentally different philosophy.

Our core focus is on data sovereignty and control, which drives many of our architectural and product decisions, as well as a more fluid and lightweight user experience.

If you’re interested in the technical design, we’ve documented it here:

@leniwcowaty Sync-in is a long-standing project that has evolved through several technologies, including Java, Python, and TypeScript. It was originally started by Johan Legrand in his spare time and has gradually matured over the years. Deployed in production across multiple companies, it benefited from real-world feedback that helped continuously improve the solution. Last year, Johan felt it was mature enough to be made public, especially given today’s growing digital sovereignty concerns.

So I've been looking for an alternative for #Google #Drive to host on my server. Very minimal requirements - only file storage, #WebDAV support, #Collabora integration (need mobile editor, and not going to pay OnlyOffice a single penny).
#Filebrowser #Quantum was closest, but (for now) it only supports OnlyOffice. Was also impressed by #GroupOffice, but the UI is very clunky and did not get "wife approval mark"

Finally landed on @sync_in. Fits all my needs perfectly!

@fossham

Sync-in is a different concept built in a different technology stack and developed over several years, focusing primarily on file management while emphasizing data sovereignty through much finer control over shared data, with a lighter and more performance-oriented architecture.
