GeofCoxThomas Piketty makes another interesting point in his book 'A Brief History of Equality'. A more telling comparison of productivity should not just be GDP per capita, but GDP per worker-hour. One interesting revelation that follows from this is that France, with its very high levels of state, employee and community ownership, and militant trade unions, compared with the US, has about the same or indeed sometimes higher productivity than the US.
Worth mentioning to those apologists for capitalism that oppose trade unions and bang in about the efficiency of the private sector.
