Pollution with NO2 is a possible technosignature—explains Thomas Fauchez #EdHW22—but detecting the Earth's production at a distance of 10pc would take 600 hours with the 15m future telescope, LUVOIR.

So need a civilisation REALLY into trashing their home planet 🤔.

mastodon.social has once again caught up with real-time. I haven't received the new machine for the database yet (seems like the technical issues unfortunately overlapped with some bank holidays; hopefully tomorrow) but I managed to find a way to optimize some code that seems to have helped. Thank you for being patient, and again, I'm really sorry you couldn't experience Mastodon at its best the past few days on here.

@dpthorngren yeah I use reusable bags almost daily for all kinds of things. Same thing goes with other cloth based products like clothing. It is a lot better to keep utilizing an item for other purposes rather than buying something new for that specific job (like reusing old tshirts as rags, using sheets of fabric as wrapping paper, etc.)

#introduction

I'm a #PatentAttorney in #Scotland UK. I joined the profession when #academia started to look less fun, and I've never looked back.

When academia was more fun, I got a #phd in #astrophysics, working on the development of detectors for #GravitationalWaves. That was a good time for a #nerd. I spent a year on some postdoctoral research before I left.

I also like #books #crafting #games #wine #films #cookery #puzzles etc. Hello!

Hi, #astrodon -- figured I should do an #introduction since that seems to be the etiquette!

I'm currently in the middle of my PhD in #astronomy and #astrophysics at the University of Chicago. My interests lie in #galaxy evolution and #cosmology with a specific focus on the physical processes that regulate star formation in the smallest dwarf galaxies. ✨
