More tips:
* Don't plan things too tightly, let the story flow from the actions of the players. Yes, this is generic advice for #TTRPG generally, but it's even more important in #PBP games.
* Put some effort into battlemaps. PBP can be challenging from an immersion perspective, but good maps can make a big difference in how battles or even exploration work out. If on #Discord using #Avrae, learn to love otfbm.io -- even with its quirks. (2/2)
I've been running a #playbypost #DND #TTRPG for about a year now over #Discord. Here's a few #tips for others thinking of doing the same:
* Give the players a channel to themselves, that you don't read. Let them talk about things amongst themselves and strategize without your watchful eye interfering. They've come up with some crazy shit, which I love.
* Sync and async aren't rules, they're conventions. Sometimes async becomes sync. Roll with it, but don't leave people out too long. (1/2)
I see a lot of the drama that is happening between people of color on the platform and the mastodon dev team. I feel like I need any to help, but I'm not exactly sure the best way to do that. I'm more wary of making things worse tbh.
But I feel like there are two important things that feel clear to me. I want to say it out loud and have people either correct me or help me understand better.
All of the articles and advice we read on running Dungeons & Dragons, while useful, can’t replace what you bring to the game. Your experiences, inspiration, and creative origins are more important than anything created by someone else. Recognize and reuse that which inspires you and don’t look back.
Sigh. My thoughts on priorities now:
1. Unifying the front against fascism.
2. Unifying the front against fascism.
3. Unifying the front against fascism.
4. All hands on deck countering voter suppression & disenfranchisement.
5. All legal hands on deck when the election goes to corrupted and partisan judicial system.
6. Wait, did we do •everything• possible for 4 and 5?
7. No, really, there’s more
