@VeroniqueB99 And just a reminder, people are profiting from the concentration camps.

"...as of July 2023, 90.8 percent of people detained in ICE custody each day are held in detention facilities owned or operated by private prison corporations."

Unchecked Growth: Private Prison Corporations and Immigration Detention, Three Years Into the Biden Administration

Three years into the Biden administration, the number of people held in ICE detention continues to grow, and private prison companies hold an increasingly tight grip on the mass immigration detention system.

@PirateFrog If you can get past the way he pronounces Yggdrasil, this was a pretty good video, too:

Cisgender 101!

This one has been going around for a long time from what I understand, but it's still super relevant. 😁

Boosting is really important on the Fediverse because it makes whatever you boost federate to the entire servers of all your followers. A boosted public post appears on your followers' timelines, but also becomes searchable to everyone on the servers of your followers.

Instead of an algorithm, the Fediverse relies on human beings sharing stuff they find interesting. This process creates a wonderful chain of discovery.

US court cancels FTC rule that would have made canceling subscriptions easier
FTC failed to follow rulemaking process required by US law, judges rule.

@arstechnica Because of course they did. Here's a tip. Head over to Privacy.com. Not an ad, I just use them.
You make a virtual card, give the virtual card to whatever it is you might need to cancel later. Gym won't let you cancel? Delete the card. Problem solved.

Plus, if you use auto pay and change banks, you can update the funding source for your cards instead of hunting around to change payment info for your auto paid accounts.

@arstechnica Oh! I forgot my favorite use! Free trials that require a card! You make a card, and set the limit to $2 (so it'll verify as valid). Forgot to cancel that "free" trial? They can't charge you!
If the trial requires verifying with a hold big enough to cover a month, you can set that as the limit, and once validated, change the limit to $2.

@arstechnica Other useful features and uses...
Cards will verify to any plausible name, which is great for mutual aid and crowd funding without doxing yourself.
You could make a virtual card, set the limit to what you want to give, and then give that virtual card info to the person you want to help to go order what they need!

You can order from sketchy sites and only risk whatever amount you set the limit to. Great for hard to find parts!

@arstechnica Trans? Still have your old legal name? Order stuff using your new name! (Or vice versa, if need be!)

Speaking of which... with the increasing bans on trans care, order your meds under not-your-name! Same applies for birth control and abortion medications.

They also do merchant locking. If my gaming account gets hacked, that card can't buy stuff anywhere else!

@hellomiakoda

Just had a read and that looks like a fantastic service. Unfortunately will have to wait until they expand into the UK.

@arstechnica

@hellomiakoda @arstechnica I (company included) was banned by Adobe for doing that. Had 1 hour long discussion with someone at Adobe to point me out at the point where I had to pay the rest of 1 year subscription because I couldn't delete it on time. I never got a precise answer, so I just barred the payment. We are no longer using Adobe, but the situation is ridiculous. I can see how they will advocate to make this impact credit scores of people.

@arstechnica What did anyone expect out of a Republican controlled 8th circuit...

They don't care about the consumer. They only care about appeasing big business and big businesses bottom dollar because these Judges are played off like some members of the supreme court...

@arstechnica Privacy.com

Set limits on transactions. They can bill you all they want but the changes will be declined.
