@majorlinux Assassin's Creed is now dead to me.

I had wanted to load a deGoogled ROM on my Moto phone before I broke it but Motorola and my carrier (Verizon) refused to let me unlock the bootloader even though the phone was carrier unlocked.

Seriously, fuck Motorola. Especially after reading their T&C for unlocking the phone. They seriously void your warranty if you load another OS onto your phone. It is incredibly anti-consumer. Can you imagine if a PC manufacturer voided your warranty for switching to Linux?

"Once you get the unlock code, your device is no longer covered by the Motorola warranty, or any other warranty provided with the device. Neither Motorola, nor your wireless carrier shall have any duty to provide warranty or customer support for unlocked devices."

I ordered a new phone today after I dropped my Motorola phone and busted it. I needed something cheap and I knew this time I wanted a phone that could either run GrapheneOS or CalyxOS. I ordered a Pixel 6. I know its getting a little old at this point but it'll do until I can afford to get something newer.

Anyways, I'm excited to achieve a new level of deGoogle in my life.

While I will never be a customer of those types of games, I believe you should let people do what they want, especially when its their own money.

Moving forward, I'll be blocking anyone who tries to derail discussions by disputing widely accepted facts from reliable sources, or by imposing non-standard definitions of common terms. I am here for constructive engagement. It is OK to disagree, but do it respectfully and with some common sense.

@gbryant

While I agree on market fragmentation, I find many Steam alternatives (Epic, Ubisoft, EA) equally problematic. GOG, itch.io, and Humble are the true standouts for offering DRM-free options, making their "licenses" feel more like ownership. It's a shame more new games don't land on GOG.

My biggest personal frustration with Steam echoes Kaldaien's "ownership" illusion: digital inheritance. I have over 2000 Steam games, a massive collection built over years. Yet, when I die, that entire library vanishes—it's non-transferable. This makes these huge, expensive digital libraries feel essentially worthless in the long run. It's a major consumer rights issue that Valve, and the industry, desperately needs to address, highlighting how fragile our "ownership" truly is.

@praustrian

I appreciate our exchange, but it seems we have fundamental disagreements on the definitions of economic terms and how various economic systems actually function in reality. I've presented verifiable facts about Mondragon and explained why labels like "socialism" and "social market economy" apply to different aspects of its context and structure.

My core point stands: Mondragon Corporation is a real-world example of a highly successful, large-scale worker-owned cooperative federation operating within a market economy. It demonstrates that democratic economic organization, where employees share ownership and decision-making, can lead to remarkable prosperity and resilience. I believe its success offers valuable lessons, regardless of how one chooses to label it

Given our fundamental differences in understanding these terms, I consider my points on Mondragon's success to be made, and I am done discussing this particular aspect.

@praustrian For well-established factual information particularly in economics and business, Wikipedia articles are generally quite reliable because they rely on cited sources themselves.

My points about Mondragon's structure, its financial model, its pay ratios, and its diverse business operations are all verifiable facts that can be found in numerous independent reports, academic studies, and business publications, which Wikipedia would typically reference.

The core argument isn't about Wikipedia's editorial process, but about Mondragon's proven success as a worker-owned federation operating within a market economy.

The principles I outlined are widely documented and demonstrated by Mondragon's long history and continued growth. If you have specific concerns about any of the facts presented, I'd be happy to discuss them, but discrediting a source wholesale without addressing the information it provides isn't a strong counter-argument.
