@oxidand It is odd that the article doesn't mention Linux once. It frames it as less people are using computers in general, which might be true, but I don't think it is the whole story. Anecdotally, I am seeing more and more people switching Linux than ever before.

@heikkiket While there is a wide range of 32-bit laptops out there and I'm not sure of your use-case, I would probably put Debian on it because it is so rock solid.

@cybertrapped The hyphenated files (shadow-, gshadow-, etc) are called shadowed versions of the regular files. It is a security measure to protect sensitive user account information, like passwords. Regular files, such as passwd and group contain basic user information, such as usernames and encrypted passwords.

The idea is that only the root user should be able to read the shadow files.

I worked on boot.dev some more today and completed chapters on python functions, scope, debugging, and computing.
