I'm copy editor and homeschool my son. We now live in an old house in Allentown, PA but hail from Washington state and made our way here via stints in Korea and Israel.

I'm a high school English and social studies teacher by trade, now developing a career in the copyediting world.

Fan of: literature, podcasts about words, Dungeons and Daddies, sci-fi, Criterion, Formula 1, new wave/punk/alternative from the 70s to now, etc. etc. ‘81 and ‘91 were the best years for music.

Like, maybe you should stick to assistant regional managing, Tom—did you think of that?

@stroughtonsmith recently launched an update to my app Kattam-The Box. I made this app with my 7yo when I found most kids games infested with too many ads. Think Wordle meets Tetris but with zero ads, tracking or upselling. Just words coming at you like wilderbeasts. #showcase

You get hammer time to blast away stuck words, and you can tune the word/puzzle recipe to your preference - https://apps.apple.com/app/id1605984718?platform=iphone

‎THE STAGE - A box. Words popping out with missing letters. Ominous looking tendrils peeking out from the top. THE GOAL - Keep your words from flying off the top. YOUR MOVES - A moving buffet of random letters to choose from. HAMMER TIME - To help you squash those marooned words. That's it! No ad…

Proposed feature for Safari: Markup.

Highlights and notes, with Pencil support, as an overlay atop the original page. Personal, not public, but synced via iCloud. I’d use this every day.

LitHub recently published an essay claiming that copyediting is stodgy, stuck in the past, and based in white supremacy. While this may have been true for a certain era of copyediting and English education, modern copyediting is so much more than that.

I was given the opportunity to write for the Editorial Arts Academy about the relevance and importance of modern copyediting, and I am honoured to defend my profession in this article.

No, Copyediting Is Not "Stuck in the Past" | Editorial Arts Academy

In response to a LitHub article claiming copyeditors are stodgy, Molly Rookwood details how she approaches copyediting for her indie authors.
