Virginia's Eerie Abandoned President Heads

A field in Croaker, Virginia holds a strange secret: 20-foot tall busts of the heads of US Presidents, now crumbling away

@AbandonedAmerica I wonder what the neighbors would think if I dropped Rutherford B. Hayes in my front yard.
@AbandonedAmerica Thanks, now I’m going to have nightmares! 😳
@AbandonedAmerica Rapid City undercut them by having a presidential bronze statue on every downtown corner.
@AbandonedAmerica they just sitting there.. waiting.. brooding..
@AbandonedAmerica ZARDOZ SPEAKS TO YOU, HIS CHOSEN ONES.

@AbandonedAmerica

Love this music video shot there.

@AbandonedAmerica ah, back in the day I used to party at a warehouse in Houston behind Adicke’s studio where there was always a bust or two hanging out. 👵
@AbandonedAmerica oof, the locations of the holes in the Lincoln and Kennedy busts.
@AbandonedAmerica Did you get notified about the PCH lottery
@AbandonedAmerica a nightmare version of Easter Island.
@AbandonedAmerica That’s some BioShock-level dystopia.

@AbandonedAmerica

This is probably the weirdest and creepiest thing you've ever posted. I thought at first it was photoshopped because nobody in their right mind would ever do something like this in real life. They're like America's very own Easter Island statues of their gods.

The best thing would be to let them slowly decay and the site become overgrown. That way it would become an even more haunting experience.

@riggbeck it definitely will be interesting to see them decay more over the years but they won't make it a fraction of the time the Easter Island statues did. They'd be lucky to make it 3 more decades
@AbandonedAmerica future Easter Island vibes there "We believe these figures had religious significance..."
@AbandonedAmerica It’s a shame the fat orange bastard isn’t there. I could have taken a trip with my sledge hammer.
@AbandonedAmerica I'm so glad I follow this account. That is one of the oddest things I've ever seen.
@AmandaLillywhite thanks so much! It was neat to see them in person, they definitely are bizarre
@AbandonedAmerica Every time I see your shots from here I dig them! Really interesting location and wonderfully captured!
@getrealjc thanks so much John, that's very kind of you!

@AbandonedAmerica find it particularly ironic (or maybe unintentially accurate?) that Lincoln has the back of his head blown out.

President Heads (Croaker, VA) | Abraham Lincoln Rear View

Matthew Christopher's Abandoned America: a hauntingly beautiful urban exploration chronicle of the abandoned buildings in our midst and their fascinating histories.

Was about to comment, “Good on the people around the area to not go vandalize them..” but then I saw this.
@Deus That's an edited photo, not vandalism.
Ah! Thanks for correcting :)
@Deus no problem! This place has been somewhat fortunate (?) in that the guy who owns the land is pretty aggressive with trespassers so they haven't got tagged to hell yet
@AbandonedAmerica had no idea this existed
@elenaperez loads of people don't, it's kind of a weird hidden gem
@AbandonedAmerica The art is actually quite stunning. So is the concept, for entirely different reasons.
@LarsFosdal I have to agree. On a technical level the sculptures are really well done.
@AbandonedAmerica the bit in your linked article about the plan for a bigger better presidents' park with these and "interactivity" - 😱😱😱😱! Are these concrete? Because freeze/thaw will do some great work here if it gets a chance
@docdieterlen I agree completely. Every year these are unsheltered they're a little closer to rubble and moving them again would probably destroy them
@AbandonedAmerica
Thanks for sharing! I had no idea these existed.
