Here’s some blunt truth — I haven't seen a single North American city with a stated policy goal of mobility "balance" that has actual street standards/designs, budgets, supporting land use decisions etc that would actually ACHIEVE mobility balance. Not yet at least. It’s usually code for some version of the status quo, only slightly better — still cars first.

Car dependency is the opposite of freedom. It takes away our choices & leaves us trapped — & I don’t just mean trapped in traffic. Plus it’s massively expensive, time & space consuming, mentally & physically unhealthy, anti-social, & future-ruining.

Put THAT in a car commercial.

MILAN has approved a £200 million plan to create a new 750km network of bike paths linking 80% of the city to bike paths, & connect the city to surrounding areas. The goal is to achieve a 20% modal shift to biking by 2035.
