My avatar is the costume/makeup shot from a production of Ken Ludwig's *Baskerville*.

My display name is Volapük encoding (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Informal_romanizations_of_Cyrillic#Volapuk_encoding) for *Skazka*, which is Russian for a folk tale or fairy story.

Glass bracelets and beads found in the oppidum (#Celtic settlement) at Manching. Manching was a centre of Celtic glass industry. It was specialized on the production of seamless colourful glass bracelets from ca. 260 - 40 BC. The raw glass was imported from the eastern Mediterranean region, the colourants were added by the local craftsmen. To produce the seamless bracelets a glass bead was made and gradually enlarged with a metal rod and a cone.

Me: Shadowrun characters aren’t that hard to make, now I just need to buy equipment.

One spreadsheet later…

Me: Okay, I’ve spent 21,500¥ on eyes…

A Texas A&M University professor gave a guest lecture on the opioid crisis at the Univ of Tx Medical Branch. She was accused of saying something critical of Tx Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, suspended, and investigated.

The faculty of every university in the country should demand that their chancellors write a formal condemnation of the actions of A&M's administrators. Those who refuse should never know a moment's public or professional peace for as long as they hold their office.
Faculty members from across the country dismayed over investigation of Texas A&M professor

The Academic Freedom Alliance has sent Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp a letter, expressing concern over the suspension and investigation into a professor for comments she made as a guest lecturer in a college class.

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that the number of pages in the indictment is…45.

For #RomanFortThursday let’s go to Qasr Bashir, #Jordan, located 15km northwest of Lejjun. An inscription dates the construction of the Castra Praetorium Mobeni to AD 293-305. It was occupied throughout the 4th and into the 5th century. Umayyad pottery indicates re-occupation in the 7th century. Qasr Bashir is considered the best-preserved #Roman fort in the Middle East. The 1.5m thick walls still stand several metres high.

Helena Blavatsky: wealthy itinerant bullshitter? Is that a fair assessment?

I would like to expand on the previous post.

The tree has been dated to be more than 800 years old.

About 480 yards ago, annals from Allouville-Bellefosse record that lightning struck the tree, scorching a deep hollow into it. The tree survived both the lightning and the fire.

The people saw this as a sign and built not one but two chapels within the great oak.

The oak was nearly destroyed in the French Revolution but, again, survived.
