Fedora proposal to drop 32-bit support has been withdrawn

There was a whole lot of discussion recently for the Fedora Linux proposal to drop 32-bit support, with the current plan being dropped.

The fast-rising energy demands of Big Tech are undermining the ambitious climate pledges that Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft have all made in recent years, according to a report. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2025/06/30/tech/ai-data-center-net-zero/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #business #tech #ai #tech #emissions #netzero #bigtech #environment #climatechange #apple #amazon #google #meta #microsoft
AI data-center boom could destroy Big Tech's net-zero plans

The tech sector faces a 'climate strategy crisis' as its data centers demand ever more electricity and water to power growing fields, such as artificial intelligence.

I've seen it recently and even tried to run it on my server, but I still don't understand the reason why it's needed. Since it for subscriptions only and you have to manually add them, wouldn't a more comprehensive finance manager make more sense? Something with the option to import bank statements.

If anyone is using this one, can you explain how is this useful?

@shinspiegel

Don't even get me started on the frontend developers xD

Facebook is starting to feed its AI with private, unpublished photos

Facebook users opting to upload their photos for “cloud processing” are inadvertently giving Meta AI access to their entire camera roll, including photos that have not been uploaded to Facebook’s servers.

In my opinion, only people who can verify the results and accept liability for approving incorrect information should be allowed to use "#AI"-generated results professionally.
The problem with the review process is that it rarely takes less time than the implementation itself because you can't do a good review without understanding the problem first. And with the quality of "AI"-generated results you usually have to read them word by word and line by line.
All this talk of "AI" saving time is usually just an excuse to do a poor job. If someone does a sloppy job, of course it's "better" for them since they don't care about doing things properly.

> IP tells you where the request comes from, that’s it. It doesn’t tell you what language the user wants, speaks, or even understands. It fails all the time — VPNs, travel, people living abroad, countries with multiple official languages. This isn’t cleverness, it gives outright annoyance.

And that's like 99.99% of all websites with the language selector...

Don't Guess My Language

If you’re still using IP geolocation to decide what language to show, stop screwing around. It’s a broken assumption dressed up as a feature.

I remember that #Google, but it feels like it was in another lifetime. And it definitely feels like a different Google.

But it's not just Google, it's pretty much everyone these days. They try to lock you in their ecosystem and that makes it a lot harder to migrate. And it actually happens with some privacy focused tools too, like email providers that don't allow you easily to export your mail (sometimes not for free, sometimes only email by email). Avoid vendor locks and everything will be easier =)
