I find steam next fest to be extremely overwhelming. There are so many amazing developers making amazing games with heart and passion. The field is so competitive right now. I kind of wish these showcases focused more on curation than quantity.
I really enjoy finding indie games on Game Pass-- there aren't too many and they're hand picked. I want more marketing like that instead of HERES 100 GAMES GOOD LUCK

Been plugging away at my next essay "Ode to a Cheat Code" for the past few months. It's about the decline of cheat codes, the "Jock"-ificafion of video games, and acceptance.
I finally finished the outline today! Went right into massaging it into paragraphs. Still have an interview to do, but hoping it comes together in the next month and a half or so.
Seeking good examples of media where there is a team of people who are the protagonist and amongst whom there is NOT a 'chosen one' or 'team leader' type. (IE, not Buffy -- even though that's a great series.)
I suppose I should look back into Chinese theater and the changes made under the CCCP in the 20th century. Not sure it's going to be what I'm looking for, though.

My new essay "We Must Be Magnificent" is about depictions of generational trauma in EEAAO and Undone. Both pieces dive deep on what it means to heal from generational trauma, and I wanted to bring them into conversation with each other.
While I was working on this I couldn't help but think about how truly whacked the world is right now. I put all my hope, optimism, and personal strength into it, and I hope it lends you some of those things.

I started this essay last December. I had to stop frequently because writing it was so emotionally draining. I think the final product turned out to be honest and raw, but (hopefully) inspiring and reassuring.
I think it is an apt response to our current nihilistic hate-prone zeitgeist. I really hope this helps someone out here. ā¤ļø

niina's toy box is a personal homepage of pixel art dolls that can be "adopted" to your own homepage. it includes "bases" which are the bare doll bodies in poses, that you paint your own clothes on top of.
i don't know if anyone out there was into personalizing their homepages with dolls in the early #2000s but i absolutely love the concept.
niina's #homepage design hallmarks at least three 2000s design styles that were ubiquitous at the time:
- pixel-perfect pixel art with minimal anti-aliasing
- isometric (dimetric) 3D projection
- razor thin 1px stripes for backgrounds
