@SergKoren As opposed to cold lava?

Jan 25 #WordWeavers—What’s the least likely ship between characters in your WIP?

Between the MC’s, Ævrie and Heiron.

Ævrie is laser focussed on supporting her community, activism and gaining equal rights for her fellow Elmar. No time for romance.

Heiron is an Arbiter—a mage detective, who works for The Magister, which is the government most responsible for the plight of the Elmar people, so not an ideal candidate. Plus he’s aro ace, so no attraction from his side either!

@SarahTollok Honestly? Inbuilt patriarchal misogyny.

The romance genre is predominantly female in many ways and so those who are raised to believe men are somehow superior naturally gravitate to denigrating anything female or seen thereas.

If you could spend a day with a popular author, whom would you choose? But more importantly, why would you choose them?

There are many possibilities, but I'd most enjoy a day with Neil Gaiman. All writers tell stories, but Neil appears to have that rarer, round-the-fire gift of being able to tell them well without first writing them down and revising them a half dozen times. Tips on writing and publishing are also great, but I really just want to hear the stories.

Alan Moore or Neil Gaiman.

I got to spend an evening listening to Neil at Ely cathedral for a reading & he was one of the most genuinely warm and gracious individuals I’ve ever met.

Alan is a fascinating cauldron of obscure ideas and wisdom. I saw him at a con once & I’d like to hear him talk more about his writing, the occult, & his snake deity.

@KurtHohmann Love this.

#WritersCoffeeClub 25 Jan - How do you feel about writers who write outside of their gender/sexuality/race etc.?

Well, let’s look at the alternative. As a white, cishet man, all my characters would have to be white, cishet men—and surely that’s the problem already?

Writing outside of my experience allows me to connect with, and represent readers who aren’t like me. As long as it is done with love and sensitivity (with sensitivity readers,) it should be more inclusive. And that’s a good thing.

@arisummerland I’m glad you enjoyed ‘cranial blancmange’!
@kkffoo You are welcome to use it! Show me any concept art.

There’s a new (free to read,) article up on my substack that’s getting some traction. If you’re a writer or creative neurodivergent person, this one’s for you. (Just substitute ‘writing’ with your preferred creative pursuit.)

It’s ok if some days you just can’t do the thing, even if you love doing the thing.
