I've been using #AnnotatedEquations in my recent papers. I think it really adds to the readability and understanding of the math.

Here are some examples. It uses #tikz in #latex.

Let me know if you like it. Happy for any feedback.

If you download your #Twitter archive it arrives wrapped as a static HTML page, which is not very useful for doing anything with, and worse: it requires the original account to be still active to do useful things like enlarge the images since they use t.co links.

So here's a #Python script to convert a Twitter archive to #markdown or other formats: https://github.com/timhutton/twitter-archive-parser

Now you can archive your tweets in any way you want.

To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.

Saw a common #buzzard perching on my way to work today. Also have a video magpie unsuccessfully trying to bully it and of it grooming its feathers, but I have yet to figure out how to share videos here without stressing the servers. #raptor #bird #bonn

Have just realised that #academics can use @ORCID_Org to
#verify themselves.

Just include your full mastodon link (like this: https://mas.to/@marekmcgann) in the "Websites and Social Links" section in ORCID, then include link to your ORCID record in your Mastodon profile.

Hurray for distributed digital identities!

With Twitter's change in ownership last week, I'm probably in the clear to talk about the most unethical thing I was asked to build while working at Twitter.

It's a bit clunkier than on Twitter, but it's not actually hard. For me it's easiest to do with the "advanced" (see preferences) version of the web app.
1. Type your first post and post it (publicly if you want it to be a public post)
2. Click on your profile to bring up your timeline and then click "reply" to your original post
3. Type 2nd post, click on the globe at the bottom, and choose "unlisted" for this post
4. Publish that post. All the rest of your...
I'm currently finishing my PhD in particle (#hep) physics at the #belle2 experiment. I don't feel much like a physicist, I do mostly #python software development and data analysis, but I like that. I enjoy nature, animals (#birds, dogs, cats, ...). doing sports, e.g. jogging, #bouldering or Judo and recently became passionate about the game of go / #baduk. I am a nerd with #linux #opensource and like hacking my #emacs. And I relax with #cooking and #fermentation
Regarding instances, I just learned that there's sciencemastodon.com, which seems fitting, though I'm likely to finish my PhD and leave science in less than 6 months, so might looks for something else, maybe local, and do it when I have more time.
