#FatTuesday #Herping in the #Gamboa #Rainforest, #Panama. Lots of what I believe to be juvenile #Basilisk #lizards, and several species of #frogs for me to identify when I return home. Also spotted an American #Crocodile in the Chagres River near there on Sunday.

A revised, high quality, leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius) reference genome produced using PacBio HiFi and Hi-C. Get this, 1/2 the chromosomes were assembled as contigs!!! 😮

@llewelly @blackmudpuppy @serpenillus I hadn't, but this is very cool. Not the first thing to link caecilians with albanerpetontids, of course. The 'scales' alone have caused others to previously draw connections to them.

The oldest #chameleon you’re ever likely to see. This is a #specimen from the 18th century Danish Kunstkammer, making it around 250 years old. It is in remarkably good condition!
