It’s vernal pool season!
Turn up the VOLUME and enjoy the quacking of ducks, errr, I mean Wood Frogs!
Went to the frog stream. I didn't realize the kid was planning to abduct some babies.🥶
I'd like to go for a night-time walk there sometime. See if I can spot any amphiumids. I hear that it is quite rare to see one. It's like the giant squid of the south, in puddles, ditches &c.
They have some wicked teeth. So only looking, no touching!😅 #amphibians
#Beavers breathe new life into Dorset as dams built, #biodiversity returns
Providing end-of-year report, the #NationalTrust project, said it's thrilled beavers were reshaping their home in #Dorset; they felled #trees to construct a 35m #dam, slowing flow of a stream & creating a deep, #wildlife-rich pool
#Coppicing trees allowed more light in & improved #habitats for #plants, #insects, #amphibians, #birds, #bats; may stop flooding on nearby road

Climate variability poses a threat to cold blooded animals
Climate change a threat to ectotherms
study has found that cold blooded #animals (#ectotherms) are unable to adjust physiologically to daily temperature fluctuations, a limitation that could leave them increasingly vulnerable as climate change drives even greater temperature variability.
(Didn't we know that already?)

Research from Murdoch University has found that cold blooded animals (ectotherms) aren't able to physiologically adjust to daily temperature fluctuations as previously assumed. This could leave them vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
Why did the amphibian cross the road?
Dunno, but you can help them not get squished at Hidden Valley Nature Center!
