@katyarnie @jikahn that would be lovely!
The Organised Chaos band will be performing at Hot Numbers, Gwydir St, Cambridge at 19:30 on 20 January 2023 with Peter Shepherd on piano, Bert Schilperoort on drums @jikahn on bass, and me on alto sax, possibly with another front line player TBD. In the spirit of Martin Kemp, our much missed friend and leader,, we'll have a few invited guests doing spots with us.
Please boost

@jikahn very much looking forward to this
A small reminder that baby Puffins are called Pufflings! This toot is intended to bring some extra joy to your timelines today. As you were. 😊 #Toot #Puffins #Boost #Birds

Hey all, with the continued influx of Twitter people, I'm once again seeing a drop in the number of people who add alt text/image descriptions to what they post, denying access to many disabled users here.

Exactly how you do this varies by Mastodon client app, but it is usually just below the image once you upload & before posting.

Even a short-but-useful description is better than nothing—focus on what you're trying to get others to get from the image rather than describing every detail.

Am I the only person who thought this was a caterpillar at 1st glance?

Every time “Can’t you just” starts to come out of your mouth, that is a cue to:

1. STOP
2. repeat to yourself, “I do not understand”
3. and then listen.

Practice the habit in advance, so you’re ready in the moment. I’ve certainly found •I• have to. It is so hard to tame this unhelpful reflex! But it’s also possible.

I have just learned there is a #mosstodon hashtag here. I recently encountered some very cool moss covering the Eldhraun Lava Field in Iceland. The moss makes the lava look like trolls!

@proactivebusybody Iceland is gorgeous! I can’t wait to go back one day.
@proactivebusybody I'm pretty sure one of those is a guy in a sweater, not moss, or a troll, or lava. I could be wrong
@dcm I mean, I had to include that photo of my husband in his new lopapeysa. He is standing in the moss-covered lava field, so I think it counts.
@proactivebusybody @dcm
I love that sweater! 😍
Last Sunday I finished this for my husband
@MarieLouiseSRas @proactivebusybody @dcm It’s beautiful! I’ve always wanted to try a yoked sweater.
@hollie @proactivebusybody @dcm thanks 😊
Go for it! It’s so satisfying when it comes out great 🥳
@dcm @MarieLouiseSRas Beautiful! I’m a knitter, but I’m an adhd knitter who can’t finish big projects, so I go for 1-3 skein projects. I bought some wool for some hand warmers.
@proactivebusybody @dcm Thanks, I’m quite pleased with it😊 I usually knit smaller projects- socks, mittens and stuff like that.
@MarieLouiseSRas @proactivebusybody @dcm Gorgeous. I just can’t do that for my husband he would be too hot. But this is my latestfinished project for me:
@proactivebusybody @dcm Definitely. I love the jumper too.
@proactivebusybody @dcm Riddari, one of my favorite patterns! Feel like I should knit it again in different colors
@dcm @IanMNoone Good to know the name of the pattern!
@proactivebusybody @dcm It's by Védís Jónsdóttir, who's probably one of the best current knitwear designers in Iceland.
@proactivebusybody is that why the trolls in Frozen look like they do
@WizardOfDocs Probably. I think a lot of the lore from Iceland begins in the unusual shapes of the terrain.
@proactivebusybody I miss the wonderfully unique terrain, and mosses, of Iceland. My wife and I will return one day!
@mralex It’s the first place I’ve been where I got home and IMMEDIATELY wanted to go back.
@proactivebusybody *whispers* that’s because they ARE trolls.
@proactivebusybody the Icelandic fauna is some of the most fascinating I have ever visited 💙
@proactivebusybody The moss on the lava fields are so squidgy too. I remember lying down on the ground - it was like a squidgy natural bed. 😁 Love that #mosstodon is an actual tag.
@Sareh88 yes!! We did a lot@of squidging!
@proactivebusybody love this, and love the sweater too!
@proactivebusybody I recognise that place! I was so enthralled when we drove by it that we stopped the car so I could have a wander around and stroke the moss!🤣😁
@kavey We drove by in the evening, and I dropped a pin. When we got where we were going, I looked it up and realized it was actually this really neat thing, so we worked out how to go on the way back.
@proactivebusybody Oh that's very cunning! Love it! 🥰
@proactivebusybody ooh nice. How do I follow a hashtag on here? Thanks in advance!
@curiouswilds I think that's something that comes with Mastodon. 4.0, and I think it depends on the instance you're using.
@proactivebusybody Oh I bet this goes down a treat. May I guide you to an adjacent path: #LichenSubscrube.
@proactivebusybody now I need to go back to Iceland so I can photograph the moss! 💚
