Anna Kahn on Instagram: "50 years and a couple of months after my grandparents co-authored a paper in Nature, I've got a story published there today. Their story is cooler, to be honest, at least the way the family tells it - when Grandpa Franz was working at Leiden University, Grandma Carla got bored and was looking for something to do, so she went to the archives and was told, 'we think there might be some of Einstein's letters in here if you want to have a dig about?' Which she did, discovering and documenting a boatload of correspondence between Einstein and de Sitter. I have not discovered any correspondence between two legends of physics, but I have had a lovely time trying to express some things about risk and grief and loss and scent in the vastness of space in 950 words. link in bio if you'd like to take a look!"

I want to think out loud about writing for a second before I go into proper weekend mode, so if you hate that and find it self-indulgent or whatever, this is your warning. (I think feeling weird about feeling weird about writing is what keeps people from writing, and I don’t think gatekeeping about it is anything but an unproductive and ego-protective bummer, myself, but that’s just me.)

It has just rained a little bit, so I have once again performed the ancient ritual of looking up petrichor in Wikipedia.

If anyone in the UK is interested in reading the geoblocked article about Lucy Letby, I was able to borrow a digital edition of The New Yorker from my library. The article makes a compelling argument that there has been a miscarriage of justice.
